Default Value of Pair of 1927 Texas License Plates

I have a pair of 1927 Texas license plates that I removed from my 1927 Model T when I sold it. I had them restored around 1990. The one that was on the back is in perfect condition and the front has some very minor road damage. I tried google to get an idea for what they are worth but the results I get seem insane to me. Realistic pricing would be appreciated.

Thanks, Robert

all about condition- otherwise not all that much.

The porcelain plates that were much earlier, bring far more $, because far less cars were on the road.

I paid $125 for one reconditioned 1930 Idaho plate. A pair should go for$150-$200 would be my guess. Someone who wants them will pay for them.

CA ones go for 3-500 a pair. http://www.oldplateguy.com/OldPlateGuyHomePage.html
Pairs are harder to find and states require originals. My car came with a pair of restored 1929 plates. I then had to go to DMV and have them cleared (no other current plate with same numbers) before I could use them. They also charge me extra per year as personal plates.
Looks like TX took away YOM plates for registration in 2011 so I'd suspect the value to be less than ones you can actually register on a car. https://forums.aaca.org/topic/183791...egistered-now/

I have a pair of restored YOM Texas commercial plates that I ran on my pickup (not legal) for several years. Since I live in Alaska, no one ever questioned them. I did have current Alaska plates on board just in case.

Just sold a set of 1929 New York plates, original condition, not restored, very nice, for $50.00 on e-bay. Sold in ten days.

In New York the plates must be clean original condition. Not re-painted.

Good luck.

I recently bought a matched pair of unrestored Michigan 1929 plates on Facebook for 60 dollars. They’d been on a barn wall since 1930 and are immaculate. I purchased a single 1922 NewYork plate for $100 dollars. I am sure each state will be different. Wayne

I think you need to read the entire post that you linked to. That issue had been corrected according to the last post.

"Looks like TX took away YOM plates for registration in 2011 " No. YOM plates can be registered in Texas.

Had my 30 coupe with YOM plates registered in Texas a couple of years ago. They gave me a small sticker and holder to put behind the plate that said it expired in 5 years. Plate for sticker was small, about one inch by one inch. Daily driver no problems plate comes back registered to me on 30 coupe. Bought the plates on ebay and had them professionally restored as original. Have about $400 in them.

Old plates here are worth more than the car:

Elisabeth Murdoch, that's Rupert's mother had number 12.

I would think you would get a better answer in the "T" forum for 1927 plates.

I registered a '31 Sedan in Texas a year ago with 1931 Texas plates; no problems. Did I miss something, or did the State of Texas mess up?

Very good advice. The Model A site is not appropriate. Wayne

I often have to remind myself when thinking of license plates from 1928 to 1931 that they are correct not just for Model A's but also for all makes of automobiles manufactured in those years.

Why Not, the first model A was built in 1927?

I think further research on your part will show the first Model A Ford was manufactured in 1903 ! Wayne
