Where I live, every home MUST be fitted with a device that detects any leak to earth and shuts down the power supply if one happens, no matter how slight. I wouldn't be without it.
In the workshop, I suggest everybody gets stuff like paint, thinners etc out of there. I keep mine in a separate shed which has no power connected and is removed from the house. Don't ask why I do that!
