Default 6 to 12 Volt Voltage Booster Positive Ground Converter

Does anyone have a schematic for a 6 to 12 Volt Voltage Booster Positive Ground Converter? It seems like something that could be wired up at home. Maybe?

A complete one is available on eBay for about $60. It is usually posted under "Ford Model A"

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I converted to 12 volt positive ground and it is very simple. Install 12 volt battery and connect the battery cables positive ground. No wires will need to be reversed or changed. You will need a coil rated at 3.0 OHM or you can use the original coil with a ballast resistor . The bulbs will need to be changed to 12 volt. Voltage reducers are available for 6 volt horns and electric wiper motors. I use a repro 12 volt ahooga horn and like it .The repro 12 volt horn doesn't have that sick cow sound . The original generator and starter works great on 12 volt without any modification. I use a 12 volt positive ground Fun Projects voltage regulator in place of the cutout. An original cutout in good condition will work just as well on 12 volt but won't give voltage regulation. This is a simple, straight foward conversion that gives best of both worlds performance.

I believe I have seen what he is talking about in the catalogs. It is a little board that connects to the 6v battery and steps the voltage up so you can have a 12V cigarette lighter plug in the car, or run some 12v accessories. It is not to convert the car to 12v. I tried finding it on Snyders website but wasn't having any luck.

I believe this is what he is talking about.

Quote:
Power Converters

These units convert your Model A's 6-volt positive ground systems power to 12-volt negative ground so you can power a CB, radio, or any other 12-volt accessory. 2.5 amp output. U.S.A. $99.95
http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/2838

For a hundred bucks I don't know that I would bother trying to make it, especially USA made.

Your original question is, does anyone have a schematic of an inverter. I suspect you have an electronics background and want to build one. I can't help you in that area. However, I built up an assembly using the inverter shown above that Snydere sells for about $100. Bratton sells the same thing, and that was where I bought mine.

I wrote an article for a club newsletter about the assembly and installation.

To view the article go to www.ocmafc.com. On the menu at left scroll to "tech articles" and click. It will bring up the tech page. At the top is my name, click on it and a new menu will come up. Scroll to "power inverter" and click. You are welcome to down load it, save it, and print it out.

The assembly is installed in my Victoria, which has a 6-volt positive ground electrical system. The assembly is mounted under the dash rail on the right side. It is mostly out of sight and is easy to use. It has been there for several years now without a problem. I can run both a GPS and charge my cell phone with it.

I had one in my MG to convert 12+ ground to 12V - ground, it would also do 6V to 12V, not much inside that would be hard to duplicate except the transformer

These devices use a isolated 2 stage switching supplies. That way they can up convert to a higher voltage / high frequency and then rectify and regulate it back down to 12 volts DC and tie the negative side of the output to frame of the car ground so you do not need to isolate anything. There are plans on the Internet for these type of switching supplies you would need to do component design to your specs. I decided it was way to much work and just purchased a $50 unit from Ebay, and mounted it like Tom E's tech bullitins. Works great.
