The funny part is I've never heard of a Minerva radio before, and of all the old radios this guy has for sale, this is the only one with a reasonable price.

He also has a very nice Sperry SP-152A multimeter for sale for only $10.

This clown (seller) wants $32.00 for shipping? As of late, have noticed that many eBay sellers are charging profiteer rates to ship the junk. No doubt they're trying to hustle their eBay fees by having the buyer absorb it in the shipping. Cute trick!

try shipping that across the states for less............ rates are pretty steep and that is a very fragile item.

NOT MINE, Tom,
Mine was a small early Transistor, with WEATHER channels & when you mal-adjusted it on A.M, it was a perfect AUDIO-CHECK, for your Secondary Ignition System

My main hobby is restoring old radios. I have restored over 1,000 radios made between 1920 and 1960, many of them quite fragile or valuable. Since I don't want to actually keep thousands of radios, I sell them. And, yes, sometimes on ebay.

Shipping an old radio requires a LOT of packing materials and time. Also, since UPS and the post office don't know how to be nice to things anymore, you have to double and triple box these things to make sure they arrive safely. $32 to ship that is a bargain.

A tube-type radio isn't a solid chunk like modern electronics. There are a lot of loose parts in there, and a lot of fragile materials around them. In the case of Bakelite (like the Minerva radio in the auction), once it is broken, that's it. Bakelite cannot be repaired and still look good. You can glue it back together, but you see all the breaks. You have to paint it if it is broken, and then you lose all the beautiful swirls and patterns in the natural Bakelite.

FYI, It is pronounced "bake light", not "Bake-a-light". In case anyone here is interested.

Sorry my Sicilian blood came out....10% of the sales price and the shipping, if an item sells for $10 with $15 shipping the seller is charged a $2.50 fee

Probably now ship about 25 or so items per month. Getting rid of things now. Used to send out allot more when a very active eBay seller. For moderate size items such as that radio, UPS ground always was the most expeditious and cost effective way to go. Anything smaller, U.S. Postal works best. FedEx is a no go as that outfit remains most unreliable. Just shipped a miniature stationary steam engine to Arizona. It weighed in with packing at over 28 pounds. Was able to fit that one into a Priority Mail large box for about $15 total. Many current eBay sellers want too much to ship and consequently see their auctions go no bid. It's just the way it is!

No longer do I bother dealing with bulky stuff heavier than a few pounds. Much easier to handle vintage cameras and coins. Nowadays, offering FREE shipping when practical is prudent and really helps get rid of the junk. The object of the exercise is disposal. Should it linger too longer, the trash dumpster is always hungry for more.

Was just reminded too that out in the garage are a few old tube radios including three good Zenith Trans-Oceanic sets. Looks as if they will stay out there collecting dust as these days there is no inclination to deal with the things.

I use a restored Zenith Transoceanic model A600 in the Tudor sedan. Excellent old radio for the Model A! It's a tube type radio that can run from its own internal batteries, and has a removable antenna you can stick to a window with suction cups. Suggest that you not throw them out.
