Default Where can I buy the correct size (1 7/8") gas filler hose?

I read on another post that there was a problem getting the correct size hose. I had a new one here from Mac's and tried to install it but no luck. It's 1 3/4" and my filler and tank are 1 7/8". I called a couple of suppliers and they all have the same hose. I can't believe they continue to sell the wrong size. I tried a couple of rubber product venders and they either didn't have the correct size or they wanted to sell me a 3' piece for $40. I tried all the auto part stores locally and no one has 1 7/8". Has anyone bought a long piece and wants to sell some or knows where I can get a 3 1/2" long piece? Thanks,

I walked into NAPA with my old rotted hose and the guy went in the back and cut me a new one to size.

Didn't even charge me for it.

I think this is more of an installation issue than with a defective part. This hose has been sold for years from various suppliers. Because of the design and tight fit requirement to seal the 1 3/4" hose is elastic enough to install tightly over the gas tank neck and the filler neck it is just not a slide thru unit.
The best way to install the hose is to install the hose on the filler neck side first and then to the gas tank. The hose is installed by coating the inner surface of the hose ends with a light coat of wheel bearing grease to aid in slipping the hose over the neck and promote a tight fit, starting it at an angle will expand the hose enough to slide over the pipes and then be clamped tight. Attempting to do this dry is a fight.

Dick,
Thanks for the reply, but I lubed it and tried to get it on the filler neck but it was too stiff and hard. Not elastic as you mentioned. As a temporary fix I used a piece of 1 7/8" Rad. hose just so I could drive the car. George/Maine is sending me a piece he had left over. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I checked all inventory over (not same brand) to address your issue, all hoses in stock are measured 1 3/4" ID. I then tried installation on both tank and neck with no ill effect as the hose brand expands to slide over the tubes and promote a tight seal. I would suggest that if your hose is not flexible enough to slip over the tube that you should notify the retailer/vendor of the fit the issue. In many cases until there is a call about a problem it goes on and on.

I plan on returning with a note of problem. In the mean time I have a piece of 1 7/8" (the correct size) on the way. Thanks,
