Default I'm Pi$$ed

Well, I was going to put my new intake and carbs (Edelbrock Slingshot) on my 59AB. When I went to install the pump it won't fit, the fuel sight glass hits the manifold. This manifold is supposed to fit 32-48 engines. For some reason they clocked the fuel pump stand about 10 deg. clockwise, where as my stock manifold has the mounting bolts perpendicular to the front to rear line of the engine. I called Edelbrock and they said "it should fit". Does anyone know what pump I can use, I think it will have to be one without a sight glass.

I think the 41-48 pumps without the bowl will work. I have an extra core if you want to go that route. Rod

Really don't know what type of pump you have but you should be able to rotate the top of the pump one screw hole to see if that works. (that's what I have done in the past)

You can unscrew the top of the pump and clock it over 60* to the next set of screw holes.

I can't visualise exactly what your problem is, but could you rotate the top of the pump to a different angle?

If not (as said) you might have to use a older type.

Mart.

Gene, Don't go beating on yourself now. I hate to count the number of times I had to dissemble and rotate during my recent fuel pump rebuild....just to match the input and output lines.

Ok, here's the Paul Harvey version. I had a spare pump on the bench that looked correct. It is the one that I tried to use. After I rotated the top of the pump it still wouldn't work. The mounting flange was wrong. It turned out to be an 8ba pump from my last car. I took the pump off the car and it bolted right on. My fault completely.

Their are 2 diff glass bowl pumps 1 for 47 -48 and 1 for 49-53. Early pumps have a shorter mounting flange. Later pumps have a longer mounting flange, they do not interchange. ken ct.

Hello Everyone. gkgeiger, I guess we could say you ended up being Pi$$ed at yourself!

Good news on your breakthrough. We've all done similar dopey stuff. I did it last week when I changed the wrong pulley tensioner on the brand X truck I tow with.

(Remind yourself to undo the change you made to the top of the wrong pump.)

Are you going to keep us in suspense or do we get to see your beauty on the car?

I'm very tough on myself. I expect better. I didn't do this stuff 30 years ago. I hope to have this done soon.

Kinda like a fly on the toilet seat. It is better to be peed off than peed on.

So did you get a chance to run the car with the new Slingshot intake? You hear mixed reports - runs great, the tall risers make it bog down etc - so your seat of the pants report is eagerly sought!

Best
John

So now that you have it on there, have you tried to close the hood? That would be my luck that it would be an inch too high.
