Dumb (maybe) wiper operation question
I have my windshield out of the '39 putting a new weatherstrip on. what a PITA. I thought, what a perfect time to fix my wipers. So I replaced the original vacuum hose which was hard and collapsed. Now the wiper motor works but only makes one swipe. Turn the knob the other way and it goes back. Aren't they supposed to be continuous? In other words, turn on and they go back and forth. Is my motor bad or what? Thanks again for the help.

Re: Dumb (maybe) wiper operation question
Squirt a little MMO in the wiper motor and give it another try. If that doesn’t help, take the vacuum motor apart (be careful doing this) clean it and coat the "flap" with a small amount of Vaseline. Reassemble and give it a try, it should work fine as long as there are no vacuum leaks.

Re: Dumb (maybe) wiper operation question
sometimes you disturb the fittings attached to the wiper motor and cause vacuum leaks. If you had better operation before the hose change, suspect a connection unless a dirt dauber built a nest in the hose.

Re: Dumb (maybe) wiper operation question
Also, Gene
With the windshield out, you might want to check the drain holes located on either side of the body. There were fittings and drain hoses on my 39. |

Re: Dumb (maybe) wiper operation question
In my plan. I saw the holes from the outside, will check for hoses in the morning. Thanks everyone.
