1928 pick up roadster - instrument panel
Hi,
the instrument panel in a 28 Pickup Roadster, must be cromed or only black painted ? In case it must be painted, could someone tell me which kind of paint may I use? Must be the same used on the headlamps ? Cheers, Charlie

The painted headlight buckets on pick-ups were plain steel, not paint on stainless or plated.

I assumed that you were asking about painting stainless buckets which may not be the case. The black, for the buckets should be the same as used on the fenders.

Re: 1928 pick up roadster - instrument panel
Hi Tom,
many thanks again for your comments. Now is clear for me. I guess the headlights rings must be nickel, correct ? Fred, my car is a July 28, so I don't know if it's a early one. Do you have a chance to post a photo of an early instrument panel ? Cheers, Charlie Saguier

I was asking Fred for a photo. BTW, Charlie, did you get any photos of your headlight buckets? |

Re: 1928 pick up roadster - instrument panel
Not all comercials were black painted steel, some were black painted brass. I have a few sets of both that came off comercials as well as nickel plated brass and nickel plated steel passenger lights, all 28-29.

Your painted instrument panel could be a war-time replacement panel. I have several NOS Ford pieces in dipped black paint, that were never painted, in production parts, but were either stainless or plated. MIKE |
