1932 Ford Roadster roof
Did the orriginal '32 roadster with a cloth top have external 'S' bar on the side of the roof back of the door?

Re: 1932 Ford Roadster roof
If you are referring to “Landau Arms”…..No….the roadster had no external bars of any kind. only the sport coupe in the 32 model year had Landau Bars

Re: 1932 Ford Roadster roof
Thank you for the info. My Dad bought a '32 Ford Roadster new which he told a few stories about. . I don't know when he got rid of it. I was born in 1930 and one of my earliest memory of Dad's cars was a cloth top with the Landau bars. I was just wondering if it was the '32 but I guess not.

The Cabriolet had folding external top irons but they were in 1929/30/31 Model As. The 1932 only had internal irons but did have roll up windows and fixed windshield characteristics.

While true in North America, the '32 sport coupe was not the last of that body type. That distinction belongs to the short-lived Australian '33 sport coupe shown below. It was replaced by a unique-to-Australia 5-window coupe during the course of the '33 model year down under. The second photos is of an Australian '34 3-window coupe. Note how the quarter windows are narrower than their North American counterparts as well as the gap between the running board and the rocker panel, which is absent on the rest-of-the-world's '33-'34 five window coupes. |

Re: 1932 Ford Roadster roof
Dad definitely refered to it as a Roadster. He did not say Sprot Coupe.

David
The quick "definitive" assumption answers are always the ones that bite in the end.......Especially since I have pictures of the above mentioned Aussie 33 Sport Coupe Trevor shared with me years ago. Being a "33" lover and it being SO different than anything here in the USA, how could I not include it? |

Re: 1932 Ford Roadster roof
Just for clarification the 32-sport coupe had a swing out windshield, it was the cabriolet that was fixed.
