Default 32 Ford Sidemount Tire Diameter.

I traded for this 32 pickup with a side mount well on the right fender and it came with the mounting hardware. It don't bother me but the wife suggested I put a tire and wheel in it. What size 16 inch tire would best fit diameter wise? I would like to run a steelie to match the other wheels. I could figure it out but I thought I'd ask the experts.

If there is such a thing as a true 5.00/5.25 x 16 tire, it might fit. Anything larger and likely you will have to widen the well in the fender. The diameter is not the critical dimension as long as it is less than a 5.50 x 18 tire, the width is, even if you have little or no air in the tire.

I ran 600-16 tires in the fender well of my '31 Model A. I let the air out and carried a pump.

Thanks. The 500/18 tire is about 29 inches tall with a section width of almost 6 inches while the 500/550 tire is about 25 inches tall with a section width of about 5 1/2 inches. It would be ideal if I could fins a 16 inch tire the right size so the rim would center up on the mounting bracket with the tire bottomed out in the well so all the weight wasn't hanging on the bracket. Wishful thinking?

I would rather have the weight on the bracket than the fender.

The '32 -'34 side-mount brackets were designed to carry all of the weight of the spare tire and wheel. None of the weight is supposed to be borne by the fender. Apart from the weight, the tire is not supposed to rest in the bottom of the well as that impedes the drainage of rainwater from the well.

Not of concern in this case but recall the BB trucks utilized a fender well positioned higher in the fender & wider to accommodate the dimensionally larger wheel, not certain if the mounting brackets were model specific. Things do get cozy with the door upon enter/exiting.

Krylon32, about six years ago I bought a 32 sedan with the tire carrier still on the back.
It had a space saver or donut spare tire mounted on a 40 t0 48 Ford 16" wheel.
The tire is relatively small and narrow but fine for a spare on the EFV8s.
It might be what you're looking for.
I'll try to get the tire size.

With your spare tire hardware make sure your cab has the reinforcement piece that goes on the inside of the cab. A lot of times they are missing. I should have one laying around here somewhere to take picture of. I needed one for a cab and I had to buy the entire spare tire carrier just to get that inside bracket. You could make one.

Gary:

Look at Blockley Racing Tyres (They're in the UK). They have some unusual tires sizes. Maybe one will do the trick.
