Getting closer to stuffing the engine and tranny. I should be able to fire her up without hooking her up to the car wiring correct? I have a manual starter, so drop in the dist. Hook up a battery/gen/rad and a small gas tank and she should fire correct? Do I need anything else?

New rebuilt engine or old. If new, make sure you do the proper procedure for breaking in the cam. Hook up a manual oil pressure gauge to check oil pressure, temp gauge too.

If a new engine, I always put a regular house fan in front to blow into the radiator just to make sure it stays cool during break-in.

Yes it is a new engine and I will talk with Tim McMaster again about the procedures for break in. I have the extra zddp to add to the oil as well, and he said to vary the rpm’s as well.

Hot wire the coil to the battery for ignition but make sure you have a ballast if required.

You can't fully break an engine in until you pull a load on it. Run it to check for leaks, pressures, and carb initial adjustments but don't get carried away on time. It needs to be put into a vehicle to properly break it in.

Rotorwrench, got it I just want to get her running and for adjustments. I am not planning on driving her anywhere-other than maybe onto a trailer. The coil I am using has a built in resistor.

Did Tim rebuild the engine? If so, why didn't you ask him to do the initial break-in? I've seen many of his run-ins on youtube; are they the exception, rather than the rule?

Fire extinguisher would top my list of what to have on a first start and outside in the fresh air!!!

Tim did build it but he only did a short block for me due to $ and getting it to and from his place.

Well, things have changed. The start is getting pushed off until probably next year as I got a job transfer and a move now takes priority. BUT….I did get the engine and tranny installed after several hours and having to learn a new vocabulary. So now I am onto installing different components and cleaning up the garage so I can get her onto a trailer.
