Default 1933 Phaeton- fenders, top irons

Hello,

I am about to start restoring a 33 Phaeton.

My car has fenders that have been completely messed up by previous body shops.

I need to replace them and the running boards and gas tank cover.

There are new fenders and gas tank covers for sale online I see.

They usually describe the fitment as follows.

Front fenders - fit 2/4 Door Sedans, Roadster, Cabriolet, 3/5-Window Coupes.

Rear Fenders - fit Roadster, Cabriolet, 3/5-Window Coupes and Sedans with pre-scribed minor trimming

My question is, will these fenders fit correctly on my 33 Phaeton ? I can carry out any adjustments needed to make them fit the body as long as the main dimensions and shapes are all correct for Phaeton.

Where can I buy a complete set of new or used top irons from ?

I have written to the only company that I can find online who lists them but no response.

From past experience it takes more than minor trimming to make a coupe fender fit a sedan.

I'm guessing it would be the same for phaeton; but I don't know for sure if sedan and tub fenders are even the same.

Sedan and phaeton rear fenders are the same and interchange.Try Steve's Auto Restorations in Portland for some of what you need.

No one is making '33-'34 phaeton top irons at the present time. Used originals do show up from time to time on ebay and in ads here in the swap meet section. You can place "wanted" ads in that section also.

The phone number on your link page is no longer a working number. You could have dialed the number and answered your own question.

Last, but not least, no one is reproducing or has ever reproduced true '33 front fenders (at least in steel). Those offered are the '34 variety, just as the reproduction inner front fender panels are the '34 variety.

That subject has been discussed at length in several posts. Basically there is a dimple on the mounting edge that aids in aligns with the dimple on the inner fenders.Do you still have your original parts?

PS I see that UP is making a repo gas tank cover-saw it on EBAY.

Re: 33/ 34 front fenders the same ?
This dimple or lack of is what he's talking about . Pic one is 33 , pic 2 is 34 , pic 3 is 33 front & 34 rear , pic 4 is 33 front & 34 rear and pic 5 is early 33 rear { note the dimple has a hole in it for the early type support rod } and normal 33 front . The aprons are a study in themselves with at least 7 variations 33 - 34 . Anywayz it sounds like you found your problem - I just wanted to show the difference in 33 & 34 fenders . Quote:

Understanding the rarity of anything 1933, try and grab what you can, from whats been offered.
there wont be much selection down the road.

Thank you everyone.

Looks like I will have to buy the new steel fender set and adjust them and use on my car.

I will need all 4 fenders, running boards and gas tank cover.
