What is this Accessory called?
Please see the picture. This is an accessory that goes down the middle of the radiator and I presume it fits behind the radiator shell. It has a shield on it painted in two colors.
I would like to purchase one sometime but I will post that over in the wanted section. Thanks. |

That’s pretty neat. I’ve never seen one like that. It looks like an attempt to upgrade the Model A look to one of the more expensive cars of the period. Let us know if you find one.

Reminds me of the 31/32 Studebaker radiator shell.

Re: What is this Accessory called?
PINES winter front?? It could be adjusted to let more or less air thru the radiator in the winter. JMO

Re: What is this Accessory called?
Brent has a good picture of the accessory. I had a poor photo admittedly. What was this called and who marketed this, Western Auto?

Re: What is this Accessory called?
I've never seen one in person, but it sure looks sharp.

Re: What is this Accessory called?
Looking at the pictures Brent posted, pic 1, the radiator splash shield appears quite different than what is normally seen as stock on a Model A. I don't think a crank handle will work with this. Can someone comment as to what it is?

Re: What is this Accessory called?
The one in Brent's picture looks like it has the accessory tool box that mounts between the splash shields. You can't use a hand crank with it installed.

Re: What is this Accessory called?
This car has a tool box mounted between the frame horns. It's removable if you did need to use the crank. Some toolbox makers put a hole in the back of the box so you could just open the lid and run the crank through it.

Re: What is this Accessory called?
There was on the 68-C I purchased a few years back. It slips in behind the upper and lower portions of the shell (mine was attached by the previous owner with several layers of electrical tape). The face side that shows is roughly 21 inches long; the shield is about three inches long; overall length is roughly 22-and-a-quarter inches. The bottom color on this one was black, but all of the paint had long since disappeared on the upper portion of the shield long before I got this one. This is the first one that I have seen after having been around Model A's for close to 60 years now. If I could ever figure out how to post pictures I'd be glad to post one, but ... . It definitely changed the appearance of the radiator when this was attached.

Re: What is this Accessory called?
As a short "P.S.", the crank will work with the center strip installed, just not with the tool box between the frame horns.

What is this Accessory called?
Getting back to the OP question, is this accessory called a “center strip?” I’ve never seen one of these before.
