Default I'm new to flatheads and glad to find this forum...TBC

Hello everyone, Im from central Arkansas and have recently started learning about flathead v8s. I've picked up several parts and motors but yet to find a good block. Thanks to this forum I'm getting more educated, and man am I behind!

I'm building a old motor vehicle using a custom frame and traditional front suspension and four link coilover rear suspension. The body is a 29 ford sedan, sectioned to make a truck cab, and a 29 ford bed.

A SBC is not an option and I will stay with the flathead. I have never built one and don't see them often.

Glad to be here and hope to contribute as well as learn.

Cheers,
Jim

A conditional "Welcome" to the forum. "Conditional", because R** R*** are not at all what we are interested in and are considered Taboo by most members. Feel free to lurk and pick up any and all of the knowledge you can, but we don't want to hear about these types of cars. If that is truly the type of vehicle you are interested in, I think a SBC would be a better choice so someone else can use the flathead in a more worthy project.

Hopefully you just have your terminology mixed up. If not, I would imagine there are probably RR forums on the internet which would fit you needs better. And if anyone should suggest that you would do better over on the H.A.M.B., please be warned that the reception to RR's is just brutal over there and your thread will disappear.

I was on here to learn about traditional flathead builds. The other forums (HAMB) held you guys in high regard. The flathead would be pure and traditional. I'd think that would be enough to satisfy you. I have built cars and trucks as a purest, to fit a class and era as well. Maybe I do have my terms confused, but I chose to build what I want how I want. I'm pretty sure that is how hot rodding got its start. And you shouldn't judge that. And, I am investing considerable resources saving these precious motors. Again, I'd think that would be something your highness would appreciate as well. Enjoy your evening jerk.

Gotsmoke, he wasn’t judging, just letting you know guys on this forum wouldn’t be interested in your type of builds. To each his own.

Look, that's a low-class unearned response by a senior member, that was seconded by another senior member. I get it that people are sensitive to their passion. I joined to learn and share in a automotive community. So if the term rat rod is taboo here, fine.

@coop, poor form...next time at least come up with your own insulting reply.

I don't think there are any moderators. Don't let two people represent the whole forum. There are just some who are more vocal than others. There is good flathead info here. Stick around and ask questions. I gather you came here to ask questions on your engine, not your body or chassis. Plenty of members here who have flatheads in non Ford chassis and race bodies, etc. And Ford chassis and bodies with non Ford engines. Who cares as long as the questions and content are early Ford-related?

Gotsmoke, as Fritz says stick around and ask questions. There are plenty of members here who have modified cars. It sounds like you may be a younger person and we need all the young guys we can get to maintain the hobby, especially if you like flatheads. I believe once you start asking questions you will find plenty of guys willing to give you answers.

I was going to say…it’s no wonder the young crowd is non existent and this hobby is dying.

Op, I was new 15 or 16 months ago. Got the same reception but stuck around and learned what to ask and what to ask under a secret account (that’s a joke…only one account here). I’ve had members refuse to sell me parts when they realize my car is not 100% stock. It’s quite fascinating. The same people that say they want the hobby to thrive and grow then refuse to sell parts for whatever reason. I for one would love to see your “insert two words here that each start with R.” Ignore the haters. It’s the same way with any old cars. Vw groups are the same. God forbid one stray from old technology from time to time. Let’s see that ride!

""Haters"? That is just a bit harsh. My response was quite measured and intended to try to guide this guy down the right path. I have NO problem with modified cars (I have a couple myself), but "R** R***"?, no way. It seems like some of you would allow this forum to degenerate to the level of barbed wire grilles and coffee pot air cleaners just to ensure that some younger members are included no matter what they want. That's not what I am here for and I firmly believe that subjects this far removed from the mainstream old Ford hobby should have their own venue so as not to pollute what so many here have built over the years.

At this point, I will go so far as to say that as far as I am concerned, this guy would be a detriment to this forum and should go elsewhere. I see that he modified his original post and deleted the offensive terminology with no subsequent mention of it. To me, this smacks of dishonesty and I want no part of it.

Nice welcome to this guy. Given the opinions expressed maybe GB Sisson and his Diesel in a Jail Bar or Jail Bar cab on a 4x4 Toyota chassis should be dismissed as well? Just asking.

Wow you may be but MANY others here fit into another category.

I certainly would be happy to guide the original poster if he's still interested in guidance.

That is a completely different thing. This guy specifically said he wanted to make a "Rat Rod" in his original post. I see that he has since deleted this without further reference. "GB"'s vehicles are solid modifications, built for practical use, and not intended for shock value. Most "Rat Rods" are hardly even driveable, much in contrast to Mr. Sisson's projects.

We are splitting hairs here. If this guy wants to build something usable out of some miscellaneous parts, fine. But if he's after some ultra low, crap loaded piece of junk, I (for one) don't want to see it. You really should read and understand my initial post before flying off the handle.

I think it's time for this thread to be shut down.
