Default 1940 Fords paint

Greetings, Am I correct in assuming that the 1940 Fords were painted with an enamel ? Also, has anyone had experience with the clay bar mitts ? seems like all clay has some percentage of silica which doesn't sound all that great for a classic car finish. Maybe the synthetic clay mitts are ok ? My 1940 Ford Sedan has an excellent paint job that is original and I would like to keep it that way Thanks guys, looking forward to your opinions and advice.

I’ve had some success with old single stage paint by rubbing in Meguiars #7. It doesn’t take any paint off, and restores oils back into the oxidized paint. This guy doesn’t recommend clay bar, just Meguiars 7.
