Default Best Quality 1940 Rear Hub?

I’m trying to track down a good used rear hub, if they still exist. I assume like most things, the originals will be better than reproduction.

But if I have to go new, I see Speedway, Thompsons Garage, CW Moss, and (and C&G but they’re out of stock) are selling reproduction rear hubs. Thompson’s Garage and CW Moss say theirs are USA made.

Does anyone have any experience or info on the quality of available new hubs?

Give Gary at Cornhuskers Rod and Custom a call (Krylon32 on Fordbarn). He will help you out with what to buy. I bought 1940 rear hubs and drums from him years ago and they still are working fine. I used OEM Ford wheel bearings and have had no problems.

The USA hubs are likely Boling Bros; the Speedway hubs are their own and imported.

I haven't directly heard any bad on Speedway's hubs; but I would check them six ways from Sunday based on experience with their drums.

Thanks guys. I’ll talk to the Corn Husker.

Ok, I wondered about Speedway’s source. And I can’t imagine there is more than one USA producer too. People seem to speak well of Boling Bros.

Would these hubs work on a 36 if the support rings for the spoke wheels were also used?

The Speedway hub takes a larger diameter seal than original Ford. I found that out. So buy spares if you get their hubs.

Unfortunately the USA made Boling Brothers hubs I have been selling are out of stock with no availability date. Have you tried Southside? You would be better off doing some hunting and coming up with a pair of originals, they're out there, be patient. I have not had this experience but I've had a couple reports of Speedways front and rear hubs failing. The Chinese made products are just not as good as the USA made ones. Follow that up with some NOS bearings. You won't be sorry.

Thanks Gary. I called earlier but your wife said you had just stepped out. I appreciate the info. I figured originals would be better anyway. Thankfully today I have found some leads on good original hubs.
