I\ve had alot of trobule osting this, so I left some of the comments out. Thr adapter is bolted to the guide, In JWL's verson he made the unit in one piece as you can see in his book. This bowl fits under a 1.72 chevy valve the stock bowl is bored with a 60 deg mill and the guide and adapter is inserted into the valve bowl which registers' on a locating slot in the block. Once installed it"s shaped tp provide an easy escape for the incoming AF/ I got this idea from a guy that ran a Bivlle but he brazed a piece of material th the underside of the valne in the bowl back in the 70's probably one of Petes friends, Making the port liniar is John;s idea, makes sens to remove as much turbulance to air flow as possable. I'll probly never run this at 90 it just another idea that might help thise tha followl

We tried something similar only made it from one piece. Saved screwing it together.
That was before porting with a ultrasonic gauge became popular.
Anything that gets the flow straightened helps.

I inview you Pete, wish I ran in your crowd back in the day, but there was now way I could have aforded it, We had some tracks that ran unlimited around here *East coast). I knew some of the guys. It's another world

Well, I stayed single till I was 30 or I could have never afforded it. We used to jokingly say we spent everything we made, on racing minus 10% to live on...LOL.
I was fortunate in that I was working at a shop that had many AAA, USAC and NHRA big name customers. It was easy to soak up info just by listening close and asking questions at the right time.
It was a great journey and I am glad to say it is still going on to a small extent.

You were lucky.I worked in an engine reconditioning shop after my apprenticeship at GM,
but all we did there was zephyr engines( not the V12) and BMC heads. things were so tight then ,we even stripped and refaced hyd lifters, expanded pistons and re ring jobs.
I must have learned a bit since then though, our dragster goes great, my 33 does lots of mile towing.
