Default chassis Engineering rear springs

Years ago when Chassis Engineering first started making their rear end brackets to mount a later rear end under the 35-40 chassis they said to use Dodge pickup front springs for their rear brackets. Does anyone recall what year springs or have an old CE catalog that gives that info?

There's guy on the HAMB (40 ragtop down)that makes a bracket kit like the CE or TCI kit. He recommends 65-71 Dodge truck front springs. If my memory is right the were for a 6 cyl truck?

I heard they used dodge van springs. We used their spring kit in our '41 Ford Fordor. Had fits getting them to ride correctly. Was like a bad pick-up!

My dad tried that kit back then and had tons of problems. The wheels were not in the center of the rear fenders and the car sat really high. We switched to posies springs and mounts and had no further issues

When I put the CE kit under my 40 coupe I had to make some adjustments. I used 2 inch adjustable lowering blocks from Speedway which sat the car correctly and allowed me to center the wheels in the fender. I used the standard springs not the heavy duty ones. Car rides good and I've had no problems.

Had a CE kit with a set of the truck springs on our '47. Sat way high, put a set of CE springs on and it sat better, and added some blocks and it was just right. Put a CE set-up on our '35 and needed blocks to get it down and tune wheel centering. We put a Posies set-up on a '40 and everything sat just right.

If you are looking for a budget set-up; there was a good post on the hamb about using AD Chev/GMC front springs and hangers. Post has lost pictures now; but the text is well detailed. Donor parts are easy to since it seems every AD truck is getting a MII front these days. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-fords.557363/

Man, those spring hangers from the front of the Chevy "AD" trucks of the early '50s is as slick as it gets. I happen to have three of those pictures saved from eons ago. These mounts make it look very professional, like a factory might have done back then.

Thanks again guys for the additional info. I have the CE brackets and have also found some spring dimensions from a friend's TCI springs that have not been installed yet. I think with all the info given I can source some springs that will work.

You might check with Ol Scrounger Tim Bedford over on the HAMB. He's done quite a few 40's with CE or TCI rear spring kits.

Thanks, I have Tim's number as he bought a '40 from me. I didn't think about calling him.
