Default American Classic Tires

I am thinking about getting some American Classic Radial Tires. Looks are important to me. Does anyone have any pictures of their car with American Classic black wall tires on their car they would like to share? Heck, share your white wall one too! Thanks.

Over 3000 miles on the radial tires and love them. Car handles much better. If I were to do it all over again I would get the blackwalls not whitewalls. Cost is much higher for whitewall and they are a pain to keep clean. If you drive it a lot like I do the whitewalls stain too easily

9,000 miles on these American Classics. I put them on when I restored the car a couple of years ago. Totally satisfied.

Dean, I see you mounted the tires with the ridge to the outside. The picture on the Coker website shows the smooth side out. I wonder if it makes a difference or is it personal preference?

No particular reason for mounting the ridge on the outside. Doesn’t seem to be a problem that I’m aware of. I’ve certainly been wrong before though. Anyone have info ????

I just received my American Classics a couple of weeks ago. I haven't had time to mount them yet. Now y'all have me curious about which way to mount them.

Love the color of your wheels, same as mine.

I was thinking it might help the aerodynamics with the speed of light test Pete was questioning a few days ago. Merry Christmas!!

The ridge on black walls appear to be same shape as whitewalls. I installed with larger letters to outside on my black walls. I had a bad experience with the tubes that had radial molded on the valve stem. Not the tires fault. I have American Classic in both my A’s 21” Tudor and 19” pickup. I drive a lot of miles at least in the car and get just as good mpg as I had with Goodyear. They go straight down the road and don’t jump left to right from uneven pavement and concrete roads. On the pickup I think next size bigger tire would appear more appropriate. Most likely a different brand to get there.

The guys who mounted my tires did 4 with the ridge out and 1 with the ridge in… so that one’s the spare. I agree, I think it allows them to use the same mold for blackwall and whitewall tires. No functional effect.

Awesome Dennis. I believe I will mount them as you did. I like the smooth look.

Tag on tubes I got from Snyder's.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your bad experience with the tubes that had radial molded on the valve stem?

I do not have a photo but they look a lot like the firestones.....you need to keep 40 or more psi in them.

They will work at 35psi but you need 40 or more for the flux capacitor to kick in at 44 mph

Just put them on a couple of months ago and haven't had a chance to do some long trips yet. They definitely make a difference in handling and the ride. Going over slightly depressed manholes are now almost unnoticeable. Tracking on straight and curve sections of road seems to be more stable than with my bias ply tires. As a result of improved tracking the performance of the shocks is now more noticeable. The grooves in pavement no longer cause abrupt side swaying. I have set the pressure at 40psi and will test slightly higher pressures to see if there is any difference in handling and the ride. So far it is looking like radials on a Model A is a positive improvement.

My 1930 Fordor: 50 psi rears, 45 psi front. 35 psi works well for bias ply tires but in my experience the radials need more.

The tubes had rectangular blemishes and leaked from the blemish. I didn’t notice them when I mounted them, but after a short period of time they failed to hold air. Another one of the 5 started to lose air after thousands of miles. When I broke the bead on the tire, the tube was shredded from both sides of the valve stem. Nothing on the rim, tire, that would have caused the failure that I could see. Eventually all tubes have been changed.
