Default Original coils. Can they be rebuilt?

Can original Model A coils be rebuilt? I have a couple of early '28 script slant poles that do not work. I though I remember hearing that a new coil could be put inside the casing or another working original coil could be put inside the casing. Thoughts?

Gary, John Holland was the guru on rebuilding these but as I understand it, he no longer has cores. I have wondered about having a new spool wound and then pot it in epoxy. I would start by calling John and see what he says.

Some years ago Jack Simmons in our San Diego club switched out the innards of a slant coil with a new coil, messy but it worked & you couldn't"t tellfrm the outside.

I bought a new epoxy coil some years ago to put inside original can, the outside diameter is a little large, got the coil Xrayed , saw that there was enough thickness to cut it down to fit ----I have not worked on that project, have a "Ricks show quality script coil", a japan oil filled coil with a tin cover slipped over it, easy to see it's not correct, but it has the hottest spark of any coil I have used so it hasn't been a priority ---don't know if you can still buy the usa epoxy 6V coil though

If Skip who does V8 coils can do the 32 tall coil he has innards that should fit the A can

Please understand I'm a paint guy......if Ford changed the coil's polarity after November 1929, wouldn't the 'new' guts for an early pre-reversal coil need to be the same ??
