Novice transmission question
1948 sedan three transmission...the first and reverse lever on the side of the trans seems to have only 2 positions...is that correct? The 2nd and 3rd lever has 3 positions. Just rebuilt the trans.

The first and reverse lever will have three positions also. The middle is neutral. Sounds like maybe the shift fork is not in the groove?

Try rotating the main shaft as you operate the shift lever.

Update: 1st/rev fork was backwards. Offset goes to the back.
