Default More "fun" at Mart's. What's up with the pickup now?

I started the 41pu and it was running very poorly. I took a series of short clips as I was working on it. Feel free to follow along - get a cuppa and spend 20 minutes with me in the garage.

Tell us more about your "electronic unit". Is it a capacitive discharge unit?....

It's a Velleman "ignition amplifier" unit that retains the points in the distributor. Up until this problem I've never had any trouble from them. This is the third one I've ran. I've found them more reliable than condensers. I need to inspect it and see if there is anything obviously wrong with it.

I'll feed back with any more info as I work on getting the truck back running 100%.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a Capacitive Discharge Ignition (CDI) unit. See > https://www.amazon.com/Velleman-K254...leman+ignition

Product description While the K2543 does not replace your ignition system, it gives a huge boost to the older points and condenser style ignition. Gives your car the feel of an expensive luxury car. Better starting and smoother running, particularly at very high and very low RPM. Lower fuel consumption, less pollution, lower servicing costs. Drive economically, drive electronically. Only for petrol/gasoline engines. Only for cars with negative ground.

Specifications

  • for use with 6V and 12V systems
  • max. current: 4A
  • typical firing period: 2.000 µ second
  • connection speed: up to 500kHz

Thanks for a nice garage visit.
The velleman unit is not a CDI unit it´s just a point´s booster...
A CDI unit charges up a capacitor and discharges into the coil...the velleman unit still uses the old way charging up the coil but instead of the points opening to let the coil disharge to the plugs it uses a transistor as breaker.
Good thing is that you can wire it in with a 2 pole switch keeping the original condensor as a backup if something happens to the box.
