What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
Im just wondering what most people think, Would you rather have a 39 pickup or a 39 panel truck? Why?
Thanks Gary |

Nothing handier than a pick-up truck. Ive had both and pick-up wins with me. Easier to see out - no claustrophobia when driving long distances.

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
I've got two '39's but they are not trucks.
However, we do have a '51 F-1 Pickup and a '53 F-100 Panel Truck. I like them both for different reasons.

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
Easier to manage them womens in a peeekup. I'd love a panel as well. Probably to hot inside. Having the sliding rear window in my peeekup sure makes driving a pleasure.
As Vic knows, I had a 40 Merc 4 door convert at one time. The police pulled me over for having toooo many womens in that thing. Clem, with a tear in his eye |

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
Clem, didn't Panel Trucks get used to transport “womens” of questionable repute at one time?

Clem, You have all the fun!! I had 2 F-1 Panels and about 10 pickups. I used to like panels alot, but the the pickup is more practical. Never owned a 38/39 but i know where one is! wifey says no more trucks Wha!!

My Oh My, Zephyr Convertible...... The right year to! God has smiled on you. I missed a chance at one 25 years ago for 15K and it was a builder. Sigh...
I was never a big fan of panels, at least not that early. Big bulbus vehicles, Pick-ups sexier if you can imagine. As the other post about which year, I am partial to the Aussie Ute. |

Yes, I consider myself very fortunate to have the '39 Zephyr Convertible Club Coupe, I've been collecting everything she needs and I'm getting close to starting her restoration. Vic

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
I couldn't decide. So I have one of each. '41 pickup and a '53 Courier. I thinking the Courier counts as a panel truck.
BTW I've had the privilege of riding in Vic's Zephyr. That is one great car the way it sits now. It won't take much restoration to make it perfect. |

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
When I was younger I would have said the panel.....with heavy springs and a waterbed in the back....hehe.
Now I'd rather have the pickup....... |

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
I have a 39 pickup "bull nose" and a 51 pickup "buck teeth". Been told others think they are the two ugliest Ford trucks. Now working on a 40 panel. Been told one of the prettiest front ends. I got it covered.

Pickup. Most versatile of all vehicles if you only need two seats. I have 5 now. A ute is also a good vehicle.

Pete, your '51 is the best looking "ugly" truck I've ever seen . Vic

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
Well I like the pickups and panels. I have been driving mine in 95+ temps and not had a problem with overheating in my seat so far. I have to pay more attention to both mirrors though.

I vote pickup. Would love to have one. A lot more versatile than a panel, IMHO.

I have a '72 Chevy Pickup, and a '50 Suburban. I guess in a 1939 I'd want a pickup.

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
My vote goes to a 39 Sedan Delivery. It's a Standard and my wife thinks it's ugly so it doesn't get much shop time. It seems to be a good place to store parts such as old seats. Bob

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
I know that you are a big guy, 6 foot plus and nearly 300 if I remember correctly. There is no way a man your size is going to be comfortable in a pick up truck cab. Plus I am biased since I have a panel already.

Re: What would you rather have? Pickup or Panel?
Owning a '40 Pickup and a '47 Sedan Delivery, I'd have to say the sedan delivery is the most practical, but the pickup is more fun to drive.
In fact, so practical, I bought my first new car in 41 years, using the '47 as a guide. My choice was a Chevy HHR Panel with no rear side windows or rear seats. Perfect for swap meets, which is what I used the '47 for. Get tired, pull over and take a snooze in the back if your not carrying a load. If you're loaded it's still good for doin' the same thing . |
