Re: T-5 in a 39 question
Mine is
69 Cougar 9” w 389 positraction 35 spring reversed eye and flattened P&J style ladder bars I’m playing with mounting a rear sway bar (ranger… don’t know yet if I like it.) Still have shocks to mount and have also been planning some kind of plate on top of the X member. Then its blast - paint - powder coat and body back on. |

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
It came with the vehicle that I bought which was all in parts. Also had an underplate that the tranny mount bolted onto (doesn't show in the pictures). Some nice work was done in that area. Lucky for me that I didn't have to do any thing but sandblast and paint. The previous owner had a lot of professional work done before he got sick and had to sell the vehicle. I would have gone with a chassis engineering leaf spring instead of coilovers. Did that on a '40 Coupe and it worked out well.

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
You should be able to use an explorer rear end and springs, they are super plentiful and your e brake is easy to hook up. You should or would want to use some sort of an actual trans mount with some type of rubber to dampen vibration, if you dont you will feel it.

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
The parts stores have a typical Chevy two bolt rubber mounting unit that can be bolted onto a plate that attaches to the bottom of the cross member. That allows for easy removal of the tranny in the future.

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
We have been manufacturing parts for these conversions for 24 years now. We have the support parts for the center of the frame. plus the mounts and wishbone splitting parts. If you don't want to run the ugly lowering blocks, check out our parallel leaf rear kits. We have specialized in early V-8 Fords for ever. www.weedetrstreetrod.com

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
I have an explorer rear end in my truck, I also have a 2001 explorer, It was real tempting to just plunk the truck on the 01 and section and lengthen my 01 frame, the 01 has rear discs. I also have an 07 Explorer, that is an IRS, I think you have to stay early because that 07 has all kinds of computer sensors and tech that you may have to support. Ill go get some measurements off it right now.

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
Here are some dimensions for explore rear ends:
01 Explorer; 104 " wheelbase 54 to 54 1/2" wide back of brake cover to rear of brake cover rear leaf springs eyes at 56" four leafs cc spacing of leafs is 39" Diff center 26" from passenger side to center. Setup under my 38 51 1/2" to 52' back of disc to back of disc My tire is 8 " wide sits 2 3/4" from the frame, I have 4" of spacing to the fender. I could go with a much wider tire. You could go with an explorer rear, If you were going 4 disc it would be ideal, I think Spadaro sells adapters to mount a wide five to a 4 1/2 - 4 3/4 ford bolt pattern. The question then would be what to do up front, I think function wise you want discs up there if you are running discs in the back. You may be able to use an older rear end off and Explorer or you may be able to use a unit out of an S 10. I beleive a 97 S10 pickup with a v6 had rear drums. numbers should be close or less than the explorer. |

Re: T-5 in a 39 question
i recently went thru that. used the same parts as dirty dan but i was able to use the wishbone unslpit by simplly drilling appropriate holes in p&j bottom plate and using a castiron ballmount kit for model a's it required some generous grinding on trans case to remove extra flanges/ribs for the wishbone to clear but it worked out good. ran the stock rearend converted to open drive with a hotrod works kit from idaho. i did it with the body on so i had to remove a section of floor to access/install xmember top plate
