Default Dennis Carpenter '40 running boards

Has anyone used Dennis Carpenter's '40 running boards, From the photo it looks like they have the rubber covering on them, but in the description it says something like "stamped tread design", Does that mean they come with the rubber covers or ? They also show a separate listing for running boards covers. Thank you.

sometimes and answer from a purchaser is much more dependable than an answer from a seller.

Unless, of course, said question concerns the method of construction and configuration of the product concerned. I would expect that had the question been about originality or quality, the answer may have been different.

But it wasn't.

I was looking for forum members experience with that product. I did call DC and found that what looked like complete running boards were only the rubber covering, of which there were 2 separate prices. What I did find is that they do not sell the complete steel running board. I was surprised at that as I thought they were selling the whole imported '40 coupe sheet metal. Anyone buy new steel running boards recently. ? Thank you.

I'm a little surprised at kube's post. If anyone knows the answer to the original question, I would expect it to be Mike. See posts 6,7,8,9. My .02.

I'm with Kobe - the poser didn't ask for anything about quality, fit, just how they are constructed

Thank you all for your help. DC's web page and contact had different stories to tell.

This is what Dennis Carpenter's web page for a 91A-16450 looked like;
RUNNING BOARD - RH AND LH - 1940 FORD CAR
Part #: 91A-16450-GTPR
Qualifies for FLAT RATE SHIPPING*

Features:
• Steel Running Boards (1) pair
• Stamped Tread Design
w/steel brackets welded underneath for additional strength
• Precision Formed - Black Paint Finish
• Perfect for Street Rods

$694.95 pr.

Then they tell me the don't sell the steel running boards, just the covers, which looks like this;
Running Board Cover - 1939-40 Ford Car
Part #: 91A-16450-DPR
Qualifies for FLAT RATE SHIPPING*
Out Of Stock
$324.95 ea.

Not sure if the right hand know's what the left is doing. Will check with Drake.

I just had to look at the site and see for myself.

I believe the stamped steel boards are described well. They are steel and painted black. "Stamped tread" ... how else can that be interpreted other than the tread is stamped (not rubber vulcanized)?

The covers are also described accurately.

And, as they told you, they do NOT sell reproduction vulcanized boards.

Methinks Carpenter's right hand does actually know what the left hand is doing.

Stamped tread design on a steel running board. Naw. Try Drake if he has them in stock.

Someone missed the point, as my post was either not well written or they didn't read it.

My contact when I called DC, I won't mention his name said; "We do not sell the steel running boards, only the covers. Get it !

So is the DC contact right or the web site ?

Instead of getting embroiled in interpretations, I was looking for suggestions and experience regarding buying '40 running boards.

Good original 39/40 bare running boards come up on ebay or Ford barn from time to time.
I would buy them and a set of running board rubbers.
I don't think Drake makes the rubbers anymore so that leaves Vintique.
They should outlast the owner.

I will add that the DC rep said they do sell the pickup truck running boards, but not the passenger ones, so they may be what is shown on their website. Will check ebay, and with Gary.
