Default Early fluid temp gauge repair

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...ement.1043778/
There is this link floating around , but it more likely ether in a modern gauge than the original red fluid (tetra-bromo-ethane with a certain specific gravity) , anyone tried this with sucess?
We have a poor modern replacement 36 temp gauge that the red has faded to clear, and another with a broken tube.
Has anyone a better method of repair??

Don't know about a DIY repair but Williamson's Instruments can repair them:

Personally, while he is a super nice guy, my most recent experience(s) with Williamsons on temp gauges were very poor..

Thanks for the heads up 35fordtn. From way down under we can not take a chance on someone who “may” repair it.
So in respect to that response . I think i will begin the search for a working NOS gauge.

These folks did mine and very pleased.2 wk turnaround and reasonable. They will need the frame with a good tube but can be cut where it exits the frame. The other alternative is to buy a NOS and The Ford Store has a couple in stock.Much more expensive tho.

swanwaco32 - you're spot on with John Wolf in OH. They can rebuild originals of yours about $190 or theirs about $260. Excellent craftsmanship. Very happy with mine. The one I had, had lost color but they wouldn't rebuild it because it had a thin glass tube which was manufactured in Argentina. It still worked but you had to view very close.

First I've heard this but good to know. I've always heard good things about them. When I inquired by email about repairing the temp gauge on my '39 p/u they replied almost immediately and answered all my questions. While the quoted price with a guarantee was fair IMO I decided to spent the money elsewhere and stick with my add on gauges, one for each side.

My experience was very disappointing for me that drew out over a year in regards to two 34 dual temp gauges. He seems like a nice guy, and I don't like to slam small businesses; so I wont go into specifics and will sum it up to maybe I was just bad luck for him..
