Default 66 Mustang Color Codes

Color code for my 66 Mustang is "U" Tahoe Turqoise . Is this the only way to identify this color. Did Ford have any other ID for this color. A friend wants to match this color but he sees different shades of this paint that is suppose to be '66 Tahoe Turquoise. His car has the vinyl rood and the bottom is Tahoe Turquoise. Should there be a metal plate on the car that designates the color.
Thanks in advance for your help. JimOH

A small 'fly in the ointment'....
Many of the components that made up older paints are no longer legal to manufacture.

A good automotive paint shop should be able to color match what you have to current ingredients and create the same color. Pick an unfaded spot to use for a 'whole car' repaint match, a doorjamb or underside of the trunk lid.

There is usually a color code designation on the car ID plate(s).
(not that I know much about '66 Mustangs)
See these two links.

Codes are largely dependent on particular types of paint being manufactured in the same colors for many years. Unfortunately, many of the paints are now a vastly different chemical content and color names have been changed several times since the mid 60s. The codes only worked with PPG and Dupont acrylic enamel & lacquer with specific color names which are no longer available or obsolete.

Any color can be mixed by a well trained paint supplier in any type of paint but they require an accurate sample of the original color to get the job done right. New formulas have been hit and miss from TCP Global but they are a shipper unless you live in the area where they are located.

dmsfrr, Thanks, I Googled a search and got more information on Mustang paint from every paint supplier in 1966 and cross numbers to match. Years 1966 through 1970.

If you have new paint mixed attempting to match the old codes & color chips, get a small sample can to test for a good color match before going all-in on enough to do a whole vehicle. Prices aren't what they used to be.
