Angry deciphering the year from engine block serial numbers

How do I figure out the YEAR of my ModelAA Truck from the serial number on the engine block? The info I've found on the web doesn't seem to go back to the 1920s. It concentrated on autos from the 1950s and up.

You need to look at several truck details to establish the year. Do you have any pictures? What is the engine number? Engines are easily and often changed, so the number may or may not be of some help.

Do you know that this is the original engine to the truck?

You may find more info here.

I just looked the one up for my late 31 CCPU, steel top, indented firewall and the engine date is 1/17/29. I have titles dating back to 1969 with this number. So it was either changed out prior to 1969 or was a really left over block...

If the block is an original stamped block, not a reground and restamped, then you can go to Bob's site or mine and figure out the day of the original stamping.

However, if it is a reground, and restamped block, there are several ways you can get it to within a certain time frame.

IF the motor gets changed they might grind off the old number and stamp their old bad engine number onto the new engine, so it still matches the title. Rather than grind, I'd use a punch to work out the old number and restamp the new number, so you still have the original cast pad surface.

Is this a re-stamped engine or a spares?

The smoothness of the area where the numbers go (the pad), the position of the numbers, the size of the numbers and the missing star in front and after the number says it is a restamp.

I thought likely. I have often wondered what the significance of the sideways "4" is. It must have meant something to someone.
