Smile Gypsycandle: engine running but hot

Hi Guys, another update. I put the radiator back in today, I discovered that it is stamped "made in Canada" and on the back of the top tank is "AB underscore L" on a little raised boss.
I teased the timing a little more and the backfiring went away, It ran for about 10 minutes. I ran out of gas , put more in and ran for about another 10 mins noticing that the generator has no output, the exhaust manifold is leaking(maybe the gaskets out of place?). There is a healthy amount of blow by coming out of the oil filler tube.

Looks like i'm going to need the asbestos gasket on the tail pipe to manifold connection, i can hear the exhaust coming out.
Oh yeah and after 20 mins of running it overheated maybe because i was running it retarded for most of that time? At least i know the over flow tube is clear.

I backed it out of the tent twice and each time the throw out bearing was humming (needs grease or replacing). Clutch chatters a bit also.

I tried adjusting the throttle linkage to slow it down, n/g it was bent and the screw never reached the peg. I also tried adjusting the idle/air mixture jet with no difference in the running of the engine...lol..lol Only the GAV made a difference when i turned it all the way off...it stopped.

Question: 1. what can be put in the radiator to clean it out?
2. how can you test the out put of the generator with a volt meter?
I have a video of it running but will have to figure out how to get it on Youtube, i guess.
ok that's all i know for now, more later.
thanks,
Michael...

1. Flush the radiator but no reason to clean it until you know it is plugged. If you were running it retarded, it WILL overheat. Also timing thats not JUST right will cause overheating. Running a cleaner in the block can loosen up crud that will plug the radiator big time.
2. Check the voltage (with reference to gnd) on both sides of the cutout on the generator BEFORE you start it, write the numbers down, then check the voltages with it RUNNING. Should be higher with the engine running, close to 7 volts if its charging. Jump a wire for a second or so across the cutout before you do anything else.
3. Fix ONE thing at a time, some people fix and fix so pretty soon they don't have a clue what was already broke, and what's broke from fixing!

That will polarize the generator (get the voltage moving in the right direction )

Use "Muffler Cement" on exhaust connection from manifold to exhaust pipe
