Push Choke and Throttle Rod (Wobbly)
Hey Guys. I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
I'm having an issue with the push choke rod that goes through the firewall to the choke on the carb. Please see attached pic. I think the throttle and push rods are meant to just float in mid-air. The problem im having is when i push and pull the choke from the inside of the car, the rod (from under the hood) misaligns itself and at times doesn't operate the carb. See pic. It seems that there should be a guide or bracket for the choke/throttle rod to rest on (under the hood) for more stability. Any help will be great. Thanks. |

Welcome to the Barn. Some people don't like to open up pdf files, so I posted the photo.

Re: Push Choke and Throttle Rod (Wobbly)
There is supposed to be a clamp at the firewall where the rods come through. Should be a hole for a screw next to the firewall hole.
It consists of a 90 degree metal "L" bracket and a small metal clamp that fits the diameter of the rod. Last edited by Gary in La.; 07-26-2020 at 06:41 PM. Reason: add info |

I do see the hole for a screw on the firewall next to where the choke and throttle rods come out. Would you know where you can find those clamps? i checked MACs and Bob Drakes but didnt see anything.

Thanks Gary. Do you have those pieces on your 47 2 door? Are you able to snap a pic and share? That would be so helpful. Thanks. By the way your 47 ford looks amazing.

So my 46 does have the bracket that Gary mentioned. A poor picture from prior to the resto:

Yes. That's what i need to stabilize both the choke and throttle rods. My main focus is on the choke. In addition to me finding and putting this bracket on i will also get a choke cable mounting bracket that connects on the carb itself.

Here is a pic from my '46 Coupe. Ignore the yellow circles. The were put there for a previous post, to ID the flex couplings

Went out and took a closeup. Looks like they would be fairly easy to make with some sheet metal, tinsnips and a drill.

Re: Push Choke and Throttle Rod (Wobbly)
Great close up pic. Many Thanks. Yes very easy to make. With that said you would think MACS, Bob Drakes, C&G Ford parts, Dennis Carpenter, CW Moss, etc., would have this item available. For all these Early Ford auto parts stores i mentioned to not to carry this is very strange to me.
Again. Thanks for the pic and have a great day! |

Re: Push Choke and Throttle Rod (Wobbly)
If you would prefer to the "originals", you might email Fred Willner at [email protected]. (He's here on the Barn.) Fred's collection of NOS parts is amazing and he's a great guy to deal with. Sorry I can't give you a part #.
On the other hand as noted above, it wouldn't be that hard to make your own. |
