Then the choke is providing the extra fuel that is normally provided by the accelerator pump when needed.
To me this is an indication that the accelerator pump may not be functioning and needs attention as it showed no improvement when in the rich position.

Re: 1941 convertible backfire to carb, with video
My 41 cvt got a lot more drivable when I replaced the vacuum banjo fitting at the base of the carb. It was a vacuum leak under 'attempted' heavy acceleration. I'm pretty sure it was where the pot metal connected to the brass nipple.
I'm running a 'new' Stromberg 97. Nice unit but the car is no tyre frying beast I can tell you. |

Re: 1941 convertible backfire to carb, with video
we're getting a little closer.
I currently have 3 holley 94 carburettors. -an old loose one that was on the shelf. (the engine will not run properly on this one) -an completely brand new one (the engine will not run properly on this one) -a used one of a 40er v8. (with Ford logo) (with this one he runs perfectly) with 50 jets. the new carburettor had 51 jets. So I thought I found the problem. Then I put 50 jets in here, unfortunately the problem was still not over. the new carburettor is mine and the 40er is from someone else so can't leave it on the engine: D Last edited by durk; 10-14-2020 at 05:24 AM. |

Re: 1941 convertible backfire to carb, with video
Maybe I'm getting deaf; sounds like noise coming from the air cleaner. popping from
air cleaner means intake valve. you need a vacuum gauge. My bet, carbon on valve & seats, gummed lazy valve guides, or possible weak valve spring. usually caused by lack of use. "the owner said it runs perfectly" and that's a when was that? well I use my car every day 12 mo. a yr. bottom line; use it or you lose it....... |
