Repair Broken Window Regulator Shaft?
I have a "survivor" all-original 1929 CCPU. It has its original upholstery including the embossed cardboard door panels. They are in place now, never been off the door in 90 years, and I absolutely do not want to attempt to remove them for any reason. I managed to jury rig new window channels a couple of years ago without doing so, but now I'm stumped by a new problem: the driver's side door's pot metal window regulator shaft has broken off inside the handle (a common problem). Anyone have any ideas how I might be to repair this without removing the door panel?? I know that if I attempt to remove it, that will the end of that door panel.... Thanks for any ideas!

Re: Repair Broken Window Regulator Shaft?
Probably not going to happen, maybe a better question would be to ask for ideas on how to remove door panel with the least damage. But should you find a solution, please post pictures for out future reference.

something is not right,I could swear my regulator shafts on my 29ccpu are steel,I will have a look at them again. They could have possibly been replaced at one time.

Re: Repair Broken Window Regulator Shaft?
a lot of the shafts are pop metal and some are steel. like Brent says, by now you know the answer. it is only a matter of when you are going to remove the door panel. they are easy to repair. NO ONE sell a good replacement shaft. that should be a split shaft it your truck. I have some if you need one. John

Re: Repair Broken Window Regulator Shaft?
Thanks, everybody, you are right Brent I already knew the answer. I did think maybe I could take a broken off end piece (I bought a whole box of original crank handles and every one of them has a broken off piece inside), hack saw the ends and tap a screw hole through both, but probably easier to figure how to preserve the door panel...

Re: Repair Broken Window Regulator Shaft?
I've never had a window regulator shaft break . If I did have a regulator shaft to break off in a window crank , I would drill a 1/8 hole in the broken shaft and use a self threading screw to pull the broken shaft out of the window crank . I would use a good used window regulator to replace the broken one . They make a special pry off tool to remove door upholstery panels from modern vehicles that should work on the model A as well
