Default 33 and caravan

We just got back from a 630 mile shakedown trip away out west in the 33 towing the new caravan I made for it.
We travelled on back roads ,dirt roads, and muddy roads.
Got lost, had to ask a farmer who was on horseback mustering cattle for directions,
Stayed at old gold mining towns ,and had a ball.
The 33 went great towed well ,played up once in 38 deg C when the fuel line fitting at the tank cracked the solider,.easy fixed on the roadside with a rubber hose..
Never got hot even in on a long pull up the range that needed 1st gear in the last part.
The 221 engine did well
used 1 litre of engine oil.had to top the Radiator up a few times, not much about 2 litres a time.I will change the coolant as we topped it up a few times with bore water that did not smell too good.
I haven't worked out the fuel mileage yet but seemed OK.
Lots of the time we were in 1st and 2nd gear on real back roads in the dust and mud.
We had a great time ,
every time we go away in the 33 ,we say how much fun we have,
Lawrie

Looks like you had a great time, Lawrie. By the way, how much does the trailer weigh?
Thanks
Jim

Looking real good you lucky dog. Wish our weather was half as warm as yours, that would make me as happy as you. Thanks for sharing, I think.

Lawrie, That looks like the coolest set up ever.We are wondering what sort of hitch arrangement you have on the 33 . Did you make it your self? Would you post some hitch pictures when you get a chance?

Van weighs 1670 lbs or 760 kgs plus food.
Pics of the tow bar,I made it myself a few years ago ,it got a work out last on the trip on back roads with big undulations.

Hey Lawrie,
That is a cool setuip, but I gotta know something about your trip. Did you already know where those dirt roads were going to go or are you mixing modern technology like a GPS with the old Ford? I'm guessing you don't use a GPS if you had to ask for directions, but I'm curious how you planned the trip. Or maybe you just started driving....

That's a fine looking rig there Lawrie. What an adventure. No overheating in 100f is a plus. I take it you don't run AC? me either, here in Texas summers. Did you build that trailer from a plan? Its a looker.

Good post Lawrie! Sounds like that little 21 stud engine did pretty well pulling the load on that trip. Are you possibly still considering going with a later FH engine for more power?
