Default While I did not have anything better to do.

While changing the carburetor on the 40 I managed to drop a nut down the manifold. This was just when I thought that I should cover the Carb base to prevent this happening. I also thought that I was doing pretty good until I remembered the Doctors comment "You are doing pretty good, For your age." (Almost 75).

Yup!! Know that sinking feeling very well. I might try to extract it with a magnet, if it were my lucky day and I was doing pretty good for my age...79!!

Ugh. If you have a shop vac, see if you can vacuum it out.

I agree with the magnet idea. If that is unsuccessful, remove the intake manifold and fish it out of the port. You don't want that nut getting into a cylinder, if that is possible. Little metal pieces make a mess of the top of a piston.

I had an injector tip fall into the intake on a 1990 BMW E-30 when I was changing injectors. I ended up removing the intake and found the little plastic piece laying by the intake valve.

Good luck with your search.

I'm 42. Age is only a number. Stay active and keep your mind working.

Hi slowforty; I hit 70 last Feb., and then I forgot to duck. 70 hit me back in two places in my back, my left shoulder, and my brain. The brain part might be a blessing, time will tell. Also so far I've been extra careful with my nuts, Craig. PS Smiles to all and have a happy and safe 4th.

Slowforty, taking the intake off isn't that big of a deal and you easily found the nut, so luck was on your side today! My brother had a saying "It always could have been worse".
