1940 Std Hood Ruber Bumpers
I am freshen up my hood rubbers on my 1940 Ford Standard.
I purchaced a hood rubber kit 91A-16761-S made by Carpenter. I found this kit listed for both Standard & Deluxe. The problem I am having is that the rubbers that attach to the hood on the front that close down on the hood t plate are at least 3/8 too thick compared to what I removed not allowing to close and latch the hood. The only soloution that I see is to cut them down to size needed. Is there a hood rubber set for a Standard ? What am I doing Wrong? Thanks Tom. |

You're not doing anything wrong. On my 40 I had to trim those two rubber bumpers shorter with a very sharp razor blade so hood would latch.

You're not doing anything wrong. I also had to cut those 2 rubber bumpers shorter to make the hood latch. Be sure to use a fresh new razor blade with a drop of oil to make cutting easier.

"Is there a hood rubber set for a Standard?"
I think there is no different set of bumpers for the Standard. On my Standard that same set of replacement bumpers went in with no cutting / no latch adjustment needed. See pic. That was three years ago. Perhaps the set you received now has those particular bumpers made too thick? Wouldn't be the first time we find manufacturing defects in aftermarket parts. |

Re: 1940 Std Hood Ruber Bumpers
If I were manufacturing them, I would assume some variance between car to car, and deliberately make them slightly oversize on the theory that it is far easier to sand a little off (to fit) than it is to try to add additional material.
