Default Russ Robinson, This is not the place to vent but!

This is not the place to vent but I have to say something so no one else gets taken.

I sold parts to a Russ Robinson form R&R Restorers, 310 South Road, Somers, CT 06071, Phone 1-890-836-2076.

On 4/13/2012 and have been calling him every month. he has every excuse you can think of for not paying his $155.35 bill.
He claims he has no money and can't pay now you would think If he really wanted to pay me, even $15 a month he would be paid up.

He will no longer anwser his phone if I call because he has caller ID im sure.

So If any one knows this guy or deals with him beware he is a snake.
I have never run into a old car guy I disliked or that cheated me. Too bad guys like this ruin it for the good guys.

Sorry for venting but its been 10 months now and I would pay the guy a personal visit but he is too far away from me.

Bill

Call the Town of Somers,Ct Police. You will be speaking to a "Resident Connecticut State Trooper" as they have police jurisdiction in that town. Explain the problem and ask if you can submit a sworn affidavit of documentation in writing regarding the sale and the lack of payment. Perhaps a visit from a LEO will shake this deadbeat up. If the transaction was done via USPS you can contact your local U.S. Postal Inspector regarding what they can do to help. Here is the Somers/Ct. State Police contact link.

I don't want to be too discouraging, but contacting the USPS would be a waste of time. They will do nothing.

This is too bad. People like Bill Stipe are the last of a breed who do business on a handshake. This activity needs to be supported and nurtured lest we lose it forever.
In my glass business I occassionally send people to get the correct money after a job is done. There's very few people whom I wouldn't trust in this way and it always surprises them (to be allowed to drive away before payment) but I've noticed this act of trust plants a seed of loyalty into the business relationship ...which can pay off in spades as a few happy customers can save you thousands on advertising.
Maybe also we just get smarter and read folks better but every once in a while a bad apple comes through.

If anyone cares, this link gets you to the deadbeat's driveway....nice old house, couple newer model cars and a yellow shovel toy.
Probably even a cozy shop in that barn.

Yes Rustyrim you are correct my typeo the # 1-860-836-2076.

Long story this guy was COD and he purchased some Model B rear alum oil slinger inserts and then sent one back to ask me to rework it to fit his Special seal along with purchasing 3 more.
This guy only has a cell phone. No fax, No checking, No credit cards, only money orders and my Secretary at the time didn't understand some thing and sent them out accidently with out getting the money first. I figured I would not get paid just by the way he talked every time you sold him anything.

Well no sense beating a dead horse but hopefully he will get his when its time to leave this green earth.
I myself could never owe anyone anything I would feel horrible my father instilled in me you don't take anything if you can not pay for it.
Even if this guy would have told me Bill im a stuggling right now but will pay you what I can every month till Im Square.

USPS has helped me with a payment problem (item not shipped), so it doesn't hurt to try them.

Thats too bad bill, I certainly understand your frustration. Its nice to think that people are good, and, most are. But, there are some that are just plain no good.
By the way, I like your shocks and plan on buying one of your camshafts when the time comes.

I don't know Fred, I think 290,000 is a bit of a stretch. Granted, it is on 1 1/3 acre but from the looks of things I think the only value is in the dirt, not the dwelling or out buildings. Structures look like pretty much tear down material, but hey, could be the Taj Mahal inside. Oh, and www.zillow.com has it at $190,000; but just like buying a used car, it's all subjective.

I disagree, Bill.
this is an excellent place to vent and alert us to a bad apple.
you have been most patient giving this bird almost a year to pay up.
we appreciate your bringing it to our attention in a rational and business-like manner.

Spdway1: Not really, just think if the sleezeball lives in a house worth close to $300,000 he could pay a $155 bill to an honorable vendor. On second thought it wouldn't matter if he lived in a trailer house/mobile home, he owes the money and should step up and pay it, not dodge Bill's phonecalls.

If it makes you feel any better i was just beat out of $2000.00 on a sale of a Model "A" [not mine]..And the seller made a cool $15,000.00 in 5 days.I was promise $3000.00 of the $15,000.00 .....Seller was not happy with making $12,000.00 in the 5 days. He calls up and tells me he is sending just $1000.00 .....He was into Model "A's but now into Chrysler's now..I say let the Chrysler boys have him with my blessing....

That's a bummer Bill, and I think you did the right thing by posting it. I ship cams regularly and have never been taken by a Model A guy. That's not to say I've never been shorted, just never by an A guy.

Thanks everyone for being so understanding, This is not the first time I have every been shorted ether and it won't break me but its just the principle of dishonesty that upsets me and maybe its because I myself would not treat anyone that way.
Well lets all hope for a great new year and no more snow for me wheres the warm weather? I think Jim Brierley needs to ship some from CA!! At least 55 to 60 degrees!

Is there any one on the FB that will not take a Bank Check, Im not talking a personal check but one that is prepaid for and made out to the seller by the bank.
I ask this because a Barner just said he would not take a bank check only a money order and befor i could say ok ill send you a money order he sold the part to another person. Is there something i dont know about a bank check.
I have goten a lot of items off the barn and never had anyone till now refuse a bank check.
With all the problems with the USPS i would rather have a bank check. T.

Fake "bank checks" are now a favorite way for Nigerian (and other) scammers to rip you off. They are printed to look official. They are nothing but wallpaper.

The Nigerians make out the check for too much money and have you wire the excess to them. Then when the check eventually bounces (could take weeks) you are stuck with bad check fees and you are out the money you sent to them.

So now people are reluctant to take them.

I wouldn't. It is very easy for payment to be stopped even after it has been deposited and credited to your account. I sold a an aluminum intake and two model 94 carbs with linkage to a guy in Florida a couple of years ago. The excuse was that somebody had hacked his bank account. By the time that I finally got my money, I wished that I had just kept the parts. I was just breaking even and lost money on the shipping . It was a part that had sit on a shelf in one of my storage buildings for a few years. The guy wanted the parts and I mostly sold them to help him out . Most good deeds don't go unpunished , so Deb says. I mostly just keep my stuff

Bill,

I'm sorry that had a dealing with Russ. I can't think of anyone that has a good dealing with Russ. I know for a fact he has cheated Tams out of some money. From the story I heard from Eric at A's and more is that Joe stopped by Russ's house to get his money and Russ told him to leave or he would send the dogs out. Joe opened his coat revealing a shiny noise maker and Russ ended up giving him his money. He has swindled many people out of model A's and parts, and even offered to "restore" my fathers late '31 pickup. I heard one story of him getting screwed off Ebay actually. I don't remember how much money it was, but I chuckled. I don't trust him ,and if I saw him on my parents property I would shoot first and ask questions later. Again, I am sorry to hear that you had such a misdealing form such a prick.

The only thing is he has SO MUCH GOOD STUFF. He wouldn't part with it, and everything is worth thousands. And the stuff that was restored, but never picked up. It's still there.
In my case I wanted my rear hubs done. He quoted me $400 and 2 weeks. I called a few times to see how things were going. After a few calls, he will not answer. Then I left messages, let me pick up what is done. 10 months later I got 4 messages within an hour form him saying (then screaming) that it was done, and if I did not pick it up by 4 p.m. it's going in the scrap. He charged me $1,400.
A week later he calls to chat.

He has so much good stuff because he steals it from people.

Very sorry to read of your troubles. Telling the truth you have no need to be sorry about. We all shall be judge upon our actions went we leave this world, place this in God's hands and you'll feel better.

Surely with a track record like his he is known to the local police. I would contact thr police and seek guidance ad to whether they will entertain criminal charges.

Interesting how a thread that is almost a year and a half old is reborn.

Some people have problems in their life, others make problems of their life.

I don't think we should 'dump it' when new data and information becomes available. This was a subject posted some time ago, but when I saw that his property is being auctioned off, I felt it would be important information for the person who posted it. So blame me. But I felt it was new information, that might help the person who started the thread.

This man has literally hundreds of thousands of parts, many NOS. His business could be very successful. This is a company his father started, Russ is now in his late 60's. You cannot fathom the collection he has. Everything is for sale, at 4-5 times the value. I have had very nice conversations with him. I have also had him scream at me. You never know.

no one is putting any blame on you, but to keep hashing this out goes no place, this was posted over a year ago. unless bill has something to say why not just let it go. only my view. lets get back to our old fords.

Well not letting this subject die does help new people to the Model A and on the forum to stay away from a deadbeat like this.

So being new to the A, Thank You Bill!

Thanks Joes31 for coming to my defense. If you read the thread, I lost $1,000 to this man. A friend lost $5,000. He still never paid the man who posted.
So in all due respect, if this post keeps one person from going there it's worth it.
I would love to get back to our Fords, and protecting our Fords from him, we will keep our Fords.

Well it looks like a year ago somebody got it all when the property and contents were sold at auction.

Bill: By all means, thanks for alerting us. Consider this worm is what he is and write it off as a bad investment. Remember, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame one me. Have a better day, and vent when you need too...

Some of us wear our reputations like a cheap suit.

And some don't care how they're dressed - which is the worst part.

Thanks for the warning Bill. I missed it when it was originally posted. Need to keep everyone up to date. I can't figure out the people that want this dropped. No one is forcing them to open this post or to read it. Their problem. Don/WI

I personally don't agree with Fred. It is a very useful post that serves a purpose. I think there should be a section that is designated to list the dead beats that members have encountered ! Thanks for the post Bill, I wish there were more Barners like you !
