Default 1968 Country Squire Windshield Wipers

Evening everyone,

Tested the wipers on my 1968 Country Squire today and I couldn't get the wipers to go back down to their resting position at the bottom of the windshield below the inspection sticker. Tried to do it by hand but they wouldn't go down further and I didn't want to force them. Any advice on how to get them back down all the way? Thanks!

Cody

after shutting them down, pull each arm off the pivot and reinstall in lower position. some one may have removed them in the past and not reinstalled the arms in the correct position.

Did this just start?

There is a PARK SW in the motor housing itself that causes the wipers to park. Usually it requires a new motor.

The diagnostic routine should be in your WSM.

Used to be able to purchase the park switch. May be hard to find now. Replaced quite a few way back when.

Don't pull arms off and reposition them until they are working properly. Leave them off. When I was working in body shop painter installed wipers after fresh paint job. Got in the car to start it, turned the key and the wipers made a nice swipe across the hood and parked. The guy that removed them had them in the up position and turned off key for easy removal.

No, he just finished buffing it out and was taking it outside for customer. Had to repaint the hood. Nobody's fault but a hard lesson learned for painter. He was a perfectionist. The switch is in the motor for park. If high and low work, look to the grounds and motor.

every wiper motor I've worked on if park switch is bad in "open" position the motor will not make a cycle. If bad in "closed: position wipers will not stop.

when the wiper arms are on the pivot they are on an angle. I pull the arm up straight and pull up. some have a locking tab on the bottom of the wiper arm housing the hooks under the shaft. If so,pull it out to unlock and pull straight up.

It was a Ford service part; I sold a lot of 'em years ago. I did some checking. . .

Dan - isn't it the switch that's attached to the motor cover? Not sure anymore, it's been a few decades. . . But If so, the # for a 68 Country Squire is C5AZ-17A511-C (obsolete but I saw some on eBay)

Yes the switch was attached to the cover. They were also different between the Galaxie/LTD's and the smaller body cars like Mustang & Mavericks.
