I wonder how many were in Honolulu, Pearl, Scofield barracks, Hickham Field on that Sunday morning, with the blocks cooling off after returning from a Saturday night on the town.

My wife's father was a flagman on the Hornet (CV-8) when it was hit in the Coral Islands. A Japanese plane flew into the carriers tower, and her father died from burns received in the resulting fire. He was a flagman on the deck when it happened, fuel was everywhere. The Japanese pilot ended up far from his plane in the ship's galley, dead of course, but body intact.

The Hornet listed heavily and was sunk by our own navy a day or two later. This remained classified information for about six months before the public was informed. A new, un-named carrier being built was christaned the USS Hornet (the seventh Hornet in US Naval history) the CV-12, and is now on display in Alameda, CA.

My wife has all the newspaper articles her grandmother saved and they are incredible to read.

I know this isn't Pearl, but it seems fitting to remember this incident also.

Thank you to all veterans, this day and always,

Richard

My 31 SW Sedan was being used as family transportation and a service car by my Grandfather. He owned and operated a repair shop in Columbus Grove, OH.

My '31 pick up was working on a farm in New Hampshire. My '31 Slant sedan was being considered for "scrap drives" I'll bet!

What was the original name of this hull? I remember reading that there was considerable consternation at angering Neptune by changing a name post keel laying.

The truck was servicing equipment in the orange groves and sawmill the original owner had, the Roadster was likely still running the streets of Troy, AL. Not sure about the others as I don't know much history on them.

My '31 roadster was built in Virginia originally and I bought it in Virginia last year. So I expect it was running around Virginia on Dec. 7, 1941. Side note: My Dad lost two friends on the Arizona at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th. He also spent 4 years in the Pacific because of the Japs. He never could
understand why people would buy Jap made products. God rest his soul.

Let's remember, and be thankful every day for those who gave so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy.

Mine was pulling stumps in were NH.

I knew a few men who were there. One man in particular told me his experience with such emotion and such depth it made me feel like i had been there. This man was a metal artisan, and this conversation came about one day when i asked him when and were he learned how to use a torch ( he was given a torch for the first time at pearl harbor to cut holes in the Arizona after she sank to try and rescue men) the two things if you joke about around me that will get your teeth knocked out, pearl and 9/11 blessed be.

I pieced my '28 roadster pickup together from swap meets in 1968 (total cost $147) so I guess it came from all over SoCal.

"Japs" is a derogatory and racist term and doesn't belong on this forum, or in any civil discussion. There are people in our hobby and undoubtedly on this site of many ethnic and religious backgrounds. We can honor those lost in service to the country without sacrificing civility.

My 30 Roadster was sitting in a garage at a large mansion estate in Bar Harbor Maine. Bought by the matron of the home for a month in the summer of 1930 for a niece to use during a visit. Then put up on blocks in a large garage. Purchased by my grandfather for my father in April of 1945 and had never been moved from 1930 to then.

I remember December 7, 1941 well. It was a Sunday and here in New England we heard the news on the radio about the Pearl Harbor attack early in the afternoon, because of the time difference from Hawaii their early morning was our early afternoon. My 1930 Coupe which I still own and drive was parked in the driveway most of the day and may not have been driven at all that day as we stayed close to the radio once we had heard of the attack.
