Default Lite rust inside block

I removed my top hose to get at the thermostat, because I was experiencing an over heat situation . I checked the thermostat on the stove in a large can of water. Used a laser reader to check when thermostat opened , 192 deg. Too high for a 160 degree thermostat, and for my general needs. I will replace the thermostat, but I noticed looking down the gooseneck that there is a light rusting that I would rather not have.My A is in winter storage . Is there a safe way of neutralizing the rust by filling up the block only ,letting it work for awhile then flushing, without having to start the engine ? What product is safe for this process ?
Thanks Don

Go online and look at Liquid Intelligence. They do a range of products but you will likely only be interested in their 239 Engine Cooling System Cleaning Kit. They say it comes with a money back guarantee so they must be confident it is good.

I used a product called Kleen -Flo , mixed the container with water and filled the block. After about 1 hour I drained it and flushed with garden hose till clear. I repeated the process . Very little color in the second flushing . I will replace the anti-freeze until spring.
Thanks all for your suggestions

If there is just a bit of rust on the surface of the water jacket etc it isn't time for panic. Go to your local auto parts store, get a radiator flush kit and use it as directed. Then use a good quality anti-freeze with built in rust inhibitor. If the system is plugged up, that's a different story.

Your choice but now that you have the rust taken care of and refilled with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze leave it in there.

Seems to me the rust inhibitor your using isn't up to snuff.

Agree with 1crosscut...I simply use 50/50 antifreeze and it stays green from year to year and the engine runs cool. I do run the Vintage Precision Thermostat housing and the thermostat that they provide...very good system...Ernie in Arizona

Ernie, and crosscut , I ordered a Vintage Precision thermostat and housing last week, never really liked the one in the hose , also makes the hose more difficult to instal. Should be good to go this spring.
Thanks all

Fill the cooling system with vinegar, let it sit for two weeks, or three. Flush and immediately fill with 50/50.
Inexpensive and works.
