Default Vacuum Wiper Motor

Is the vacuum wiper motor turned on by pushing in on the inside knob or by pulling out on the knob? I'm not always this dumb. Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is "correct" or not but on my set up I could actually throttle the speed of the vacuum motor with the push pull nob. Two days ago I converted to the new fancy shmancy electric wiper. It was a chore but I'm waiting for a rainy day to try it out. Very well made.
