Corroseal Rust Converter?
All.....new to the forum and the Model A and this is my second thread. My question is that I have a 1929 model a town sedan that is in original condition with some god patina. I found Corroseal and was wondering if that would hurt the originality as far as the patina was concerned? I have attached a photo of the worst side of the car. You paint this stuff on and it turns black and converts the rust to magnetite. I know that the rust needs to go away but is this the way to do it or is there some other way? Ralph

I like this stuff but it would seem to me that you can say goodby to the patina if you use it there. I would wax the rust instead. That would hold up as long as I intend to live. Jack

Re: Corroseal Rust Converter?
A rust 'converter' changes iron oxide into iron sulfate. The rust is hanging onto something so I think the patina is in trouble.

Re: Corroseal Rust Converter?
I have used this stuff and it works great! it needs to cure for at least 24 hrs. and, it looks good, the patina looks good but darker only turns the rust to a dark gray and kind off shinny, however you need to topcoat it with in 30 days or it starts to break down. I suppose clear coat would work it is a good primer. I used a color coat . can't tell you how it holds up It has been on my car for about five months still looks good.

I like to use Johnson's Paste Wax.

If they are rust holes, I wouldn't worry too much about patina. I've never seen rust holes like that, so I'm puzzled. |

Re: Corroseal Rust Converter?
Ralph, welcome to the Ford Barn and the best of luck with your project!
Corroseal is a good although expensive product. You can accomplish the same thing with Phosphoric Acid but you do have to keep it dry or reapply it.

Re: Corroseal Rust Converter?
That is where the rust has eaten through. My plans for the car are to get it running and safe and then leave it alone. I just didn't want it to be a car of many colors. I did order the Corroseal and my plans are to at least go over the bad rusty areas with it. The passenger side is the worst part of the car and I will stay in the lines when I put the Corroseal on. Thanks for the responses and I will send a picture after I done this weekend,Ralph

Of course if you apply a top coat of paint following the cure and prep you'll bet good to go.
