Have you seen?
So I am absolutely new to this forum and the model a. I purchased a 1928 model a last week and it has pull down shades on the back glass and the 2 side windows. It also has hand pulls that hang down for folks in the back seat with an arm rest. What model is this?

Re: Have you seen?
Welcome to the Ford Barn, there is lots of people that can answer you questions. If it is a town sedan witch that is what it sounds like, are the door window have a ark or are they more straight across the top of the window opening. If it is ark the town sedan was made by Murry and if there straight across they are a Briggs body. Do you know what year it is. If its a town sedan it also has what is called Cowl lights that come out of the cowl or below the gas tank. 28-29 have a signal stem coming out of the cowl. 30-31 the cowl light also comes out the cowl but the arm also has a leg that laps over a trim molding.

Re: Have you seen?
Welcome! From your description of "hand pulls" in the back seat, and from what I could best determine from the picture you submitted, it looks to me as though you have a 1929 Town Sedan. The single point garnish moldings under the window frames would establish this as a 1929. Similarly, the 1929 model year was the only year in which a rope cord and ball would have been used as a "hand pull" or grab handle in the back seat. Either way, it appears that you have found a nice original car well worth keeping and enjoying.

Re: Have you seen?
It is a 1929 Murray Town Sedan. All 1929-1930 Town sedans had shades on the back and quarter windows.

Re: Have you seen?
That's right. People want to SEE pictures but are so afraid of posting pictures themselves. I see lots of threads were there is a lot of 'blabla' about some parts ore issues but NEVER one picture. In my case (English is not my language) it would be very helpfull to see what someone's talking about.

Re: Have you seen?
Welcome Rparker, nice Town Sedan, make sure you check the wood out thoroughly as that is the support structure for the whole car. As for the goodies that came with the car they are cool. Looks like a really great pair of sun glasses, an original set of keys, and a defroster. Change the fluids, plugs etc., check the brakes and drive her.

Re: Have you seen?
Okay......for the backstory.........I was told the car was bought new in New York and then the owner moved to California. The car had a California worlds fair 1939 tag in it. The owner lived in California for a bit then went back home to New York where he passed the car to his son. The son went into the military and the car was parked in a barn around 1955/56. The son of the owner was killed in action and of course never returned. The car then went to the great grandson who sold it last year and I bought it from that owner. The claim is that the car went into the barn in 55/56 and did not come out until last year when the great grandson of the original owner sold it. The claim is also that the 69 k miles on the odometer is original miles as they used the oil change sticker on the door post as proof. The car has 2 atlas tires,1 Firestone and 1 Goodyear tire that it is riding on and they look original. The spare is a standard brand tire. As for the wood it is amazingly in great condition. The side of the car that was on the side of the barn that got some weather did not fair so well as you can see from the pictures. The motor is stuck as well. All I know is that she is mine and I love it! As I make progress I will certainly update everyone,Ralph

Just to be an old fart...in future posts you might want to use a title a bit more specific than, " Have you seen" That doesn't help most folks find your post in the future or even right now, if they are looking for certain types of posts. Looks like your getting some good info anyway and keep asking questions! Brian W. |

Re: Have you seen?
No doubt.....in the second photo there is a bag. In that bag is tire chains. Did that come with the model a? I found it under the back seat.

Re: Have you seen?
Where are you located? Maybe a club member that is local can come and see the car. This could help you from making a damaging mistake. Nice car and I would not mess with the patina, it's impossible to create. Jack

That car will make a nice one for touring and cruises. Put her back to original Ford condition and it will serve you well.

Re: Have you seen?
Ralph-
I summer at our house in the North Georgia Mountains every year, until we move there full time (soon). I know where Calhoun is. We should get together, in person and on the phone. I can help you get the engine unstuck without damaging it. I agree with the others to try to maintain the current patina, if at all possible. You can rebuild the internals of things, as needed, to make the car safe and reliable without ruining the current original outward appearance. There are things you will want to do with the car before starting and driving it for the first time, to avoid damage to the drive train. You also need to order some basic Model A books to guide you. These cars are simple to work on, but you can save yourself a lot of aggravation if you have a good book to follow.
