Re: December, 1927 Introduction Mystery
In keeping with a picture being worth 1,000 words... here's 2,000 words' worth.
I couldn't resist melding the old and new images of the Davenport Hotel. Despite differences in lenses, angles, etc., etc., I'm pleased with the results. Living in a home that's been continuously occupied since 1795, I often think about the successive layers of lives that surround us all. If you're ever in the Davenport Hotel lobby, hope that the ghostly "No 7" timber from 1915 doesn't fail. I noticed the "No 7" when I enlarged the image... pretty good evidence that the Davenport and/or its riggers had a standard set of ramps for hosting auto shows. |

I feel the same way when I visit historic sights. Imagine that where I'm standing is an alternate layer taking place 80/90/100 years ago. I think that's one of the fun things about driving in these Model As. I can imagine the guy in the suit behind the wheel sweating to death in the Texas sun.

Nope . . . that building is NOT the (long extinct) Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
