Default "small" V8 flathead

Anybody see the very small V8 flathead at the Frog Follies swap meet this weekend? Sign said it was a V8-60 vintage race engine but it looked to be about 3/4 size of a Ford flathead. It was kinda hard to see around everyone that was looking at it and I meant to go back latter and get a better look, but of course I got sidetracked and didn"t. I was just wondering what it really was or were my eyes just seeing incorrectly. Anyone else see it?

Hi Everyone. kycowman, you saw correctly. From 37-40 Ford USA had these available. Much discussed, see these search results...

Do a search on this forum for Rich Willim and this will bring up many interesting posts with tons of info on this little 60hp Flathead V8 engine. Most of these little engines were yanked out and replaced with the larger 85hp engines, but these 60's found their popularity in midget racers and hydroplanes. They were actually great little engines originally designed for small European Fords, but it was felt that Ford made a huge blunder here in the US when they used them in full size 37-40 Fords.
Personally, I'd love to own an original 37-40 Ford powered by a little 60hp engine.

So, you are saying that the V8 60 is actually, physically smaller in size than the V8 85.

Anyone heard a thing on the new V8-60 book that's supposed to be coming out?
Seen mention of it on the barn a few months back.
Kycowman: yes, it's physically smaller than the 85.

Visibly smaller. I had one the year I graduated from high school and could lift the thing by myself! Also, they had only 17 head studs vs. 21 or 24 for the "big" engines. I think the only part they shared was the distributor (mine had a carburetor and distributor from the large engine because it didn't come with the original parts)

.

Kycowman: I think you'll find the 337 an interesting V8 also. It makes the 85 look small. Used in Big Job Ford trucks and Lincolns.

V12 looks cool also, somewhere I have a picture of a v12 street rod complete with headers, finned heads, polished intake w/multiple carbs.

Sometimes the original copies come up on epay.

I'm hearing nothing from Marty Willim on his efforts to bring the reprint of his Dad's book out. Hate to sound negative, but it may never happen.
