Default A New One

I just acquired a 1933 cabriolet and have a couple of questions. First, what does this handle at the bottom center of the seat do? It appears that something is missing as there are several cage nuts just below the shaft. Second question is the serial number is C18 18XX. The Buffalo EFV8 club has some information on Canadian Fords. Is this a Canadian made car? Was the body manufactured in the US and exported and assembled in Canada?

Thanks,
John

Nice looking car, that handle is the seat adjustment lever. it looks like the wrong part, should have a spring and Big ratchet teeth, Handle appears correct.

Here is the bottom of the seat. Doesn’t appear to have any movement available. 36 Phaeton has no seat adjustment either!

As i recall the bottom cushion is fixed to the seat frame. The entire assembly is what moves.

Thanks for the enlarged picture Pete, as usual. I can see the pretty lady more clearly now.

Nice car too.

Canadian built in all respects, including the body which was made by "Motor & Coach Ltd., Chatham, Ont. Canada" under license from Briggs.

Given the angle of the photo of your seat adjustment mechanism, I can't tell for sure what is missing or wrong except for the long return spring. I disagree that what the handle is attached to is wrong; at that angle the teeth are on the bottom edge and not visible from directly overhead.

As TJ indicates, it is the whole seat that moves back and forth, not just the seat bottom cushion. '32-'34 phaeton and roadster seats are fixed, i.e. not adjustable as was the case with those body types for '32 and '35-'36. Cabriolet seats in all of the '32-'37 cabriolets are adjustable.
