I have used Anthonys bulbs for more than 12 years, good focus, and none have burned out -- http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/page2.html I get them at Hershey, not the cheapest, but made by a car guy that cares, I have the pre-focus bulbs for my 36(what the 39 would use), and I just got 35--50 watt for my A to replace the 35-35, i can still run the 50 watt with the generator.

I run the halogen bulbs offered by LBCarCo. These work great in my 37.

Do you need to use a relay with your light switch wjhen using halogen bulbs with either 6 or 12 volt systems?
I am wondering if the headlight switch can handle the current.
Thanks.

I have 6V halogen bulbs in my 35 fordor and they work well. They fit in the original sockets. I got them at Hershey several years ago from the same guy who Kurt mentions in his post. They do draw more current than the originals but also light up the road much better. I had to move the third brush on the generator to increase the current output.

I use them in a otherwise stock model A, original switch, wiring, sockets, and generator, the 50watt ones take less than the 6V sealed beams I was testing ---not much less though, stock wiring and switches in good condition will not have any problems.

Your lights, irrespective of voltage, will always work better through a relay.Having said that, I run 12 v halogens in 35 Ford with no relay. If using 6 volt, I think you'd be well advised to gain full benefit of the halogen upgrade by utilising relays.

what halogens are you running in a 35? I've tried H-4 bulbs but the low beam filament is not in the focal length of the reflectors so all I get is something about as bright as a parking light. The high beam works OK and I run that as my "low beam". The H-4's I have are 65/100 watts. I tried bulbs from the Little British Guys but they only offer 55/65 and that's too dim.

I have a 12 volt system with relays and heavy wiring but I'm "still in the dark"

Over on the model A side there is a discussion on halogen bulbs with comparisons of filament position
http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96009

original reflectors and repro reflectors are different, the position of the bulb in the reflector is important for focus---and the difference between a light that works to see and a bright light that won't light 10 feet---a properly focused 35 watt bulb can make more useable light than a 100 watt unfocused light bulb

http://www.abarnyard.com/workshop/lamp_focus-2.htm --a good article on focus

Thanks,
I read that thread. Now I'm uncertain as what to do for better light down the road. I don't care what is happening in the trees. I guess I could try the Halogen bulbs and then Make a decision. Charles
