Default Not what I expected when I pulled the trans. cover

My questions are coming in on the Model T already. I was adjusting the forward band and I decided to pull the cover plate just to have a look-see and I was surprised to see a baffle plate with chevrons under the top plate and there's a copper tube from the top plate going back to the engine. Is this something I should keep? I was expecting to see a screen and magnet. See pictures.

I didn't pay attention to how the baffle plate was positioned when I removed it because I was so surprised to see it. I thought the correct way it should go back was with the baffle down like a paint roller pan instead of raised up. Is this the correct way (baffle down)? Thanks

Its purpose is to collect oil. Place it so it can do the best job. That one is different than others I have seen. Where is the pipe output? can you show it on the side?

a wanted and useful accessory. I have had similar variations on 7 or 8 model t's through the years. I have one now on my '14 but don't recall the make

Looks like a good one. I would affix a strong magnet in the tray for the oil stream to flow over.

There was at one time, a steel mesh screen located at the top of the internal "catcher" shaped in a "V" to catch debris. SureFeed & Ford Faithful were two of the most popular accessory oilers. If it has the original "footplate" attached to the lower c.c. cover, they can be a bit problematic at oil dripping.

Texas T Parts still lists the high flow oiler. It attaches to the hogs head just above the starter boss on those so equipped. It catches the oil directly slung from the magnets on the flywheel. It requires opening a port and drilling bolt holes for the pickup plus the feed to the front of the pan. All of them can catch band material so they should be cleaned at regular intervals.

Yes keep it. These oilers are considered far superior to the magneto post oilers.
