Default Model 21-29 Ford carb problem

I believe this is same carb as the 94 but was manufactured in 1946. Anyway, when idling there is gas running out between throttle body and base. There is a new gasket and pieces are together tight. Float has been reset several times and power valve is a new one with special chamfered edges. When throttling it has popping and backfire from exhaust. Right side idle mixture screw makes very little difference when adjusting, left side works excellent. Have i set float wrong? Complete rebuild and cleaned and blown out but still problems.thanks

it is leaking internally, possibly from a hole in the float bowl that has deteriorated from the great cruddy gas our government has forced on us. Corn gas just corrodes the pot metal that old carb are made of. Also check the gasket sealing on the power valve
FYI 21-29 carbs came out on 1942 Ford (21) and Merc (29)

The later gasoline with ethanol doesn't deteriorate the die cast zinc (what the carb bowl is made of). It attacks aluminum and rubber parts. Water in the fuel causes corrosion and can damage the bowl over a long time.

46,
When you have a chance remove the carb and separate the air horn from the bowl and the bowl from the base. Dry the base and bowl off real good. Set the bowl on the base and put 1/2" of gas in the bowl. Give this about 2 hours or so and lift the bowl off the base. I'm pretty sure you will observe fuel from the bowl laying in the power valve vac chamber of the base. There is a proper solution to this situation. Get
back to us with what you find.

46,
My solution is to send you my power valve rescue kit. Kit includes a Daytona Parts 5.5 power valve that I machine to eliminate the casting part line. This guarantees
a flat gasket surface and the surface is absolutley square with the threads. In addition to the above the PV gasket in the kit is my design and snap fits onto the PV.
Finally a new base to bowl gasket is included. If you are interested PM me at your convenience.

Yes,I scrape it out regularly and sell it back to the pig farmers out your way. Seriously, "corn gas" or ethanol " a type of alcohol" can affect rubber or aluminum parts as suggested by one of your more educated contributers on here. Leaves no residue in carbs. Indy cars running E-85. I've used it for over 20 years in my F-150 with 185K, engine outlasting body. Mowers, snow blowers, bikes etc. No problems. Now genius, what the H is wrong with my carb
