Default '47 Convert. Top Info

i just started on my '47 Convert. What is the best source for info on how the top mech. should work. adjust . how the hydraulic system is set up etc. as there is no hydraulic system in my car . the pump , cylinders, switch etc. are all gone. The top bows are there but the top to window clearance is off. Any help would be appreciated.

Contact Hydo-E-Lectric in Florida. They specialize in top parts, should be able to help you out. If you get Hemmings, they usually advertise in there.

There are good instructions in the Ford Service Bulletins about adjusting the top. There is also a body parts book that the vendors sell that has good breakdowns of the individual parts includiing hydraulics.

Like Paul 2748 said, contact Hydro-E-Lectric in Punta Gorda, Fl. If you are not going for total originality, you can install a late model Mustang top cylinder under the back seat with a toggle switch mounted under the dash, that's what I did with our '47 convertible as I prefer function over originality in that regard.

You can spend a lot of money on the top motor and cylinders.....You can leave all that off and just install the springs on each lower side quarters. The top will move up and down with little effort by hand. I have done one with motor and two without, its even faster by hand.
