Clutch finger adjust question
I have a rebuilt pressure plate from Fort Wayne Clutch. The fingers need adjustment to the 11/16"height they are at about an inch now and lock nuts are staked. Is there a way to unstake and reuse or do you just force turning the nuts and use new ones? Thank You.

Yep, they'll usually move. Once in awhile a small grinder/ dremel is needed.

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
Are you measuring with it installed? I would talk to the supplier before messing with it. Fort Wayne should have sent it properly adjusted. Are you sure it isn't?

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
It is installed and torqued down.I am using a NOS Genuine Ford clutch disc that is the .340 or mayby it is .350 thick.Mayby they set them up with the newer type that are made in China and are thicker? I don't know but the fingers are about 1/4" to low of the guage and it is the 11/16" one.

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
I think you need to use a disc supplied by Fort Wayne as that is what they use to set the fingers.
If you have a thicker disc the fingers would be lower and you would need to adjust. I use locktite instead of staking the nuts. John Last edited by john in illinois; 12-26-2018 at 08:10 AM. |

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
I thought of that but I figure the thickness should be standard unless some of the newer China disc are thicker.Should be a standard .340.thick I think and according to Les Andrews. The NOS Genuine Ford disc I am using is .340 thick.

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
Yes, I got it from Bratton's and it is just an 11/16" guage.I think this is because the specs are 5/8"-3/4" finger adjustment.

Re: Clutch finger adjust question
from the Ford clutch and transmission book , form 3697-47
adjust release levers with new clutch disc or .340 thick gauge plate, adjust to a distance of 3/4 inch ----so you need a 3/4 instead of 11/16 I am constantly surprised at the amount of "adjusting" that is contemplated with the fingers,I would consider a new pressure plate defective if I had to adjust it out of the box--- |
